I was wondering what peoples opinion was of these two displays.

Would they produce a vastly different picture?
I'm tempted with the apparently better black of a plasma.

Sony KDL-46X3500 (http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProduct.action?product=KDL-46X3500&site=odw_en_GB&imageType=Main&category=TVP+46-70+Sony+BRAVIA+TV)
vs
Panasonic TH-46PZ85B (http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/557702/index.html?trackInfo=true)

As far as I can tell the Sony is the best LCD and Panasonic the best (barring Pioneer Kuro) Plasma?

Floob.

hmmm, and if its

60% Freeview TV
10% Blu-Ray films
20% DVD films
10% PS3 gaming

I'm erring towards a Plasma.

Its a fantastic set i've seen a coupe hook up to a hd source and its amazing how vibrant the colours are.
The only reason i am against is the old worrie about screen burn but from what i've herd its no where near what it used to be if any.?

Hi there,

i am looking to buy a new tv 42"-46" and have come to the same decision the sony KDL (prob the 46V3000) or the panasonic th-46pz85b. Am kind of leaning towards the plasma but am a little worried about the gaming issue, is this a big problem for the panasonic?

also which one did you go for and are you pleased with it?

Thanks and Regards
Mart

I went with the Panasonic 46PZ85. Been playing GT5, Resistance of Man, MGS Online and others - very happy with the performance.

Thanks for the reply, so i guess youd recomend the Panasonic 46PZ85 over a sony KDL46V3000. Right thats it im going for the panasonic.....i think....maybe.....ahhhhhhh its just too hard:-) hope you dont mind me asking but where did you purchase it from and what kind of deal did you get. Cheapest i have found on net is £1366 at http://www.digitaldirect.co.uk/products_moreinfo3/index.asp?product_id=15527

also thought i would be able to get the 46PZ80 a bit cheaper but cant seem too:-(

I'd recommend seeing the two side by side, and maybe even a Pioneer Kuro as these are the best quality plasma.
I paid £1,499 from a panasonic dealer. I would say the cheapest is about £1,350 online.

I wouldn't go with the PZ80 as it looks a little poor aesthetically - check it out in a shop.

I am/was still tempted with the sony but I think I was paying for the name and style rather than the quality.

I think with any plasma/lcd choice you have to make the best of whats available because the technology is still sorting itself out, unlike CRT.

Yeah think i need to do that, although i know whats prob going to haven im going to think they all look just as good as each other. Think I am kind of leaning towards LCD and the sony again now ahhh:-) do you know if there is a massive difference between the KDL46V3000, KDL46W3000 and the KDL46X3500? I am thinking more in terms of SD picture quality as i guess they are all pretty good for HD video and games!

Thanks and regards

Lets forget the W3000 its almost discontinued,as in early may comes the W4000.What about it?Its going to be better than the X3500 apart from the 100Hz loss on the W4000.Anyway the X3500 SD wise its the best amont the other sony's

Cheers for the response, only prob with the 46w4000 is that it is not out yet and im guessing is going to cost £1500+ which is really more than i want to spend on a tv. Is the w4000 going to be that much better than the w3000. Also is there much difference between the V and the W?

Yeah W4000 will be better than W3000.It wont cost much though around 1,5k MSRP for the 46W4000 and even lower online
