Hi all,
I've been looking at getting a new (and my first) HDTV, the two that seem to be standing out (in my price range) are:
Sony KDL40D3500
Samsung LE40M87BD
I'm just looking for advice on which is better (or if there is a better LCD TV out there for the same price (around the £700/£800 mark).
I was originally going to get the Samsung, but then saw the sony and that was top - then read trusted review the snoy get's a lower score then the Samsung - so I'm now all confused.
I will be using it to plug into the PS3 - so my main use will be for gaming (and dvd or blue-ray films playing on the PS3) - other use will be watching the built in freeview as can't get Sky where we are.
I've read a lot of mixed reviews - my main concern is jittering when playing games (I'm after smooth gaming) - any advice would be much appreciated.

Well, both are excellent but the thing is that the sony has more reliability while the sammy has many problems with some of them having fixed via fw update but there are still issues. So IMO get the sony D3500 or the 40V3000 model

The Sony 40V3000 can be had for under £700 here (http://www.digitaldirect.co.uk/products_moreinfo3/index.asp?product_id=14028) and I understand it is better than the D3500, while the cheapest price I know of for the 40M87 is £699 from Comet.
I am in the same dilemma as I just had to return a 40M87 as it was faulty, now I'm wondering if I go for the same or get a Sony.

Just poped into the Sony Shop at lunch and spoke to one of the guys in there - he said the only difference between the V3000 and the D3500 is the V has an extra HDMI port and a shiny piano black bezel. He said everything else is the same - panel, Bravia engine etc.

as the above post say the D3500 is almost the same as V3000.So it doesnt matter which one you take just take one of two,as you got a faulty sammy,I wouldnt risk it again:hiya:

Cant speak for the sammy, but i do have the d3500 and in a word its great, i had the w3000 a few weeks ago and while it was several hundred pounds more than the d3500 it is not that much better in picture quality.
Ps3 is stunning @ 1080p both for games and DVD/BR playback and for a tv that can be had for £699 or less i don't think it can be beat.
Mark.

Oh right, I didn't realise the only difference were connectivity, John Lewis also says it doesn't have an S-Video socket. Looks tempting for me now too!

Yes it looks like I will, do we know when the next series (4000) are coming out and if there would be another drop in price soon?
