Hi,

2nd time of writing this ( new G15 keyboard and the keys are to small no matter how pretty it looks). Anyway I`m about to get the sparky in and if I`m running Rf cables to all rooms but I want freesat come April so do i also run sat cable to all rooms, or can I run through RF as surely this can`t handle a HD signal?
Also do they do a sat cable distribution/booster box , like Co-ax or Rf or do you run multiple leads from the dish to individual rooms?
Please help people as i only want to drill the walls once!
Many Thanks

Firstly you can't run a HD signal through RF, you would need to output via (depending which sat box you buy) the HDMI output. Secondly if you want to connect various tv's to one box you can use an RF amplifier with multiple outputs, but you won't get HD, just normal SD. All depends on what you want to do & what TV'S you have & what inputs they have got.

I think we need to get a bit of clarification on what you want to acheive.

Do you want to feed the freesat signal to each room and then have decoder boxes in each room, one for each tv?

Or

Do you want a single freesat box in a central location which then feeds all the tv's with the same signal?

Both of these systems are possible, but both need different equipment and possibly designs.

Sounds like you need a loft box of some sort.

I run a Triax DDU (http://www.tracsat.co.uk/docs/triaxddu.pdf) (domestic distribution unit) which will feed DAB,FM & Analogue/Freeview to all outlets (using just one coax cable from the DDU to each room). Additionally, it will run sky+ to the lounge (lounge needs 2 coax feeds) plus a further 2 independent satelite connections to other rooms.

I don't subscribe to Sky myself but installed the DDU to give me the option of hooking up a freesat PVR to the lounge in the future plus adding another 2 freesat recievers elsewhere in the house without the need to re-wire.

Any questions feel free to ask.

That's exactly what I want to do!

Are there any limitations with HD signals from Freesat being distributed?

Are there any advantages with the DDU over just sending two connections from the Quad LNB to the Freesat PVR in the lounge and the two other cables to 2 other Freesat receivers if I'm not interested in the Freeview,DAB,FM etc etc?

There is no problem with you feeding your satellite receivers directly from the dish. All the DDU and others like this do in combine the UHF/Freeview signals with the satellite ones to save on cable.

There are several different types of loft boxes available; I went for the Triax as it seemed the most reasonably priced future proof box to me at the time. It will take a quad LNB feed from the dish and feed two of these to the lounge (for a twin tuner sat PVR) and will send two separate raw satellite feeds elsewhere in the house. The raw feeds here will be HD capable i.e. you can hook up HD satellite decoders to two additional points. It will also distribute the satellite PVR / freeview PVR from the lounge by way of a modulated SDef signal via the RF to all other rooms should you wish (note these will NOT be HDef).

To clarify the DDU will allow three HD satellite boxes; one twin tuner PVR in your lounge (which can also be distributed in analogue SD around the house) and two further independent HD sat boxes elsewhere. All points in the house will also have FM / DAB / VHF / Freeview (and also CCTV if you want) but only two of these will additionally have the ability to take a raw HD satellite feed.

The DDU works by simply combining all signals into one feed and then splits them back out using special wallplates (dixplex and triplex-ers). The glory is just two feeds into your lounge and one feed to each room (using high quality sat grade coax) all connected to the central DDU is all you need!

One further point – the lounge face plate (for Sky+/dual tuner) is a double and also incorporates an inbuilt phone point so you may want to run a telephone cable here (as well as the two coax feeds) as even if you never use this for Sky it may come in handy for an internet connection at a later date. The other points use a single width face plate (with one coax feed).

Hope this helps.
