Opinions sought please. Is there an obvious 'winner' out of these 2. I know the Toshiba won a What HiFi S&V 5* award, but have read conflicting reports since. Need to buy a 20" LCD for my Father and am undecided.

Can't help with those two but recently bought a Sharp LC20AD5EBK would suggest you look at it as well.

Go for the S3000 it comes in seven different colours.:thumbsup:
I say go for the sony it comes in 7 colours and its Sony at the end of the day.
IMHO i prefer sony then toshiba. I think they are more reliable
