Which DVD playback software?

Out of the plethora of DVD playback software. I would be grateful if there was one that really stood out from the others.
I am not into downloading divx or torrents etc , just simple playback for my dvds from various regions on my PC.
Also is there some sort of remote control facility coupled with this, compared to using my massive wireless keyboard while lying in bed.?

Any type of help and information would be great.

Re: Which DVD playback software?

I use the latest build of Media Player Classic because as well as DVDs it can play any format I throw at it, DivX/Xvid, h264 etc., so it's an excellent 'one stop shop' for all media, I don't need to keep changing players to play different types of media.

For remote control, I use an ATI Remote Wonder and have configured my HTPC with Girder to allow my remote to control all aspects of Media Player Classic ie. fast foward, pause, stop, play, etc. Girder is a superb utility for remotes and amazingly versatile.

I'd also recommend Theatertek. I've been using it for a couple of years now and had no problems with it. It can't play Blu-ray/HD-DVD but you mentioned you just want to play DVD so it'll be fine for that.

Good fullscreen mode too. Pair it with a Microsoft Media Center Remote and then you can just sit back and watch.

Also, if you decide to go down the DVD's-stored-on-Hard-drive route, Theatertek integrates nicely with the My Movies MCE plug-in.
