I know this question has probably been asked many times, but whenever I burn a MP3 CD or synchronise a playlist to my Sony mp3 player, the tracks are quite often played backed in alphabetical order - and do not honour the playlist created in WMP. Is there a way to burn CDs so it plays in track order? Or would I have have to change the file names in Explorer?

I have searched all over looking for answers but found nothing and would really appreciated it if anyone has a solution for this dilemma!

Many thanks :)

When I usually rip an album WMP prefixes all the tracks from the album with a track number, so the filenames usually appear 'x - tracktitle .mp3' thus when you come to burn the files back to a CD the album track order should be preserved. I guess you're not getting the number prefixing?

*EDIT* Take a look at:
Tools > Options > Rip Music tab > File Name... button
Make sure that the track number checkbox is ticked, I've also got that from WMP10 and I'm guessing that WMP11 is exactly the same but if it's not you need to look at your options for ripping music.

Yes mate, that does work, but unfortunately I have downloaded a lot of tracks and also used Nero to rip a number of CDs.

Ahh, in that case I think you need an MP3 player that can play .m3u playlist files and you'll have to edit the playlist file so the directory structure matches the CD or mp3 player. If that fails I guess you have to manually rename the files to the order that you want them played in, or save the files in a directory structure of your choice.

Try this http://dronten.googlepages.com/jtagger

Edits the tracks' an album at a time (has a useful test mode as well)

I always add a two digit number to each track name (01, 02, 03 etc..) This way you can catch any application that doesn't support track number playback either
