New Bourne?

Does anyone know if another Bourne film is planned at some point? I know series like this don't usually last beyond three, but I thought because of its success maybe the franchise would continue.

Re: New Bourne?

Yeah they've said they'll do another if the story is right. It will need to be, this is a great trilogy and it would be a shame to spoil it.

Re: New Bourne?

I went searching and came up with this:
http://themovingpicture.net/bourne-4-not-a-sure-thing

When news broke that a fourth Jason Bourne flick was in the works I immediately thought to myself “Boy that was fast”. Let’s face it, The Bourne Ultimatum tied things up so nicely, why would Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass want to jump right back into that world? Well, as it turns out, the star and director actually don’t have any immediate plans for a fourth movie.

Empire Online recently talked to both of them about the project and here’s what they had to say:

Matt Damon:

We’ve just kind of been amused by the whole thing,” said Matt Damon of the rumour suddenly circulating everywhere after a Variety article last week. “I think it’s one of these stories that has a life of it’s own. Not that we’re against it, we’re all for doing a fourth movie but it means coming up with a good story. There are a lot of things that would have to happen before we would sign up for it.
Paul Greengrass:

“What does Matt say?” asks Greengrass. “He says yes? It’s news to me. I think the truth is that it’s a very well loved franchise, but we’re in the process of trying to work out what kind of film you could make. If there is one, what would it be? How it could go? Without any pressure; without any commitment to it, but everybody loved the franchise. We love it, but none of us would want to go again unless we’re sure there’s a worthwhile film and that could take some time. You don’t want to do that when you feel like you’ve got to make it and none of us need to, so that’s where we are”.
So there you have it. It looks like both seem interested in another Bourne, but nothing is currently happening. They don’t even have a story yet. It’s a ways off.

Re: New Bourne?

The only possibility, I think would be if Robert Ludlum follows on with another Jason Bourne novel.

Might be a bit tricky as he's dead.

However, Eric Lustbader has already written The Bourne Legacy & The Bourne Betrayal

Not that the films have had a great deal in common with the books other than using the titles...

Re: New Bourne?

This trilogy is the best ever in my opinion, and I probably echo Matt Damon when I think that it would have to be top drawer. I imagine they will do another one, but not within the next 5 years. Keep us panting for more and when its right, go for it.
the great thing is, they all insist it must be a great story. Unlike The Godfather 3 , Star Wars and etc it is refreshing to hear that the cash cow isn't going to be milked at the risk of delivering a poor film.

Re: New Bourne?

The Lustbader books are real steaming turds...most of the "ludlum" books written since he died haven't been a patch on the originals.

I enjoyed the films, but they are so far removed from the books as to be completely different. So in theory its entirely possible to spin this out as long as Bond

The books are worth a read in themselves, just stop at the lustbader ones

Re: New Bourne?

It doesn't really matter about the books anyway does it?

Granted I am just about to finish reading the last in the trilogy, but the film doesn't seem to bear much relation to it at all. Except having two people with the name Bourne in it.

Were the first two books close to the films?
