Anyone ever made a film adaptation of it? I know of the John Carpenter film of the same name, not ever seen it mind, but am told this isn't the same story?
I just watched the 2007 film "The Mist" based on the Stephen King novel, and just got me wondering if anyone had ever made a film based on Herberts book - as it's one of my favourite books ever and think it would make a great film if done well.
With that in mind - also his novel "The Dark" would also make an excellent film - again, another favourite of mine...

No, not as far as I know.
Try reading "Rats".
His first and best book, IMO :smashin:
There was a film take on that, I think, but it sucked.
If done properly, that would be a great film, imo :smashin:

I don't know anything about JM's The Fog but JC's The Fog is mighty fine. I haven't seen the remake so I can't comment on that either.
All the best

You should read JH's version then.
It's miles better, IMO.
But totally different and based in London :)

Badger - I have, along with Lair, Fluke, Haunted, and another I can't remember tha name of. I do like Herberts books - probably more so that Kings! There was a film made from The Rats, called Deadly Eyes, but it sucked a LOT! There was also one done from Haunted, which had Aiden Quinn and Kate Beckinsale in it, but I've not seen that and it's hard to find! Supposed to be a not bad film though...
Brian - Didn't even know there had been a remake of Carpenters "Fog". I must get around to seeing it (Carpenters film) at some point.

I agree that JH is probably better than King, it's probably the english take on things that doesn't translate.
BTW, FWIW, there was a film called "the rats" that was loosely based on JH's book, but it was based in NY and all translation was lost, hence it's "B" rating, at best.

Check this link. I haven't seen it but even with Tom Welling I doubt that it was that "super".

Loved JH's the rats book, read all the sequels to, there have been 2 or three films made based on it and depending on latitiude a whole bunch of very bad b movies inspired by it. There is practically a mutant killer rat genre.
Of the film version's I remember, one from the 80's?, I had it on vhs once, set in america and sucked. If I remember the plot at all it involved a garbage strike and rats getting into some animal feed or something laced with growth hormones or something. Ended with everyone being killed on a subway train.
There was a much more recent, made for TV movie also called the rats again set in US and had rats infesting an old department store, really, really bad.
JC's fog movie is quite good and worth a watch but the remake is distinctly lacking in almost every department.

Carpeneters "The Fog" was an exellent movie, when the fog rolled in it struck a genuine fear in me, the remake was a load of tripe, and thats being kind. I reccomend the original fog movie to anyone who hasnt seen it, but please stay awake from the remake. That guy should have stayed at home in smallville

Stay awake from the remake? Was it that bad that people were falling asleep during it?:)

Indeed. The Rat's was JH's first book I ever read. Brilliant. Think Domain was even better though:smashin:

Yep. JC's The Fog was a pretty decent effort. Not seen the remake, apparantly dire. It did have that stunning chick from Lost in it though:god::grin:
JH's The Fog is again, a brilliant book. A film based on that version would be awesome but I fear any attempt would not do justice to the book.

I doubt they'd get it past the censors either, with all that frollicking in the streets
