Hello,

I purchased an unlocked iphone yesterday and inserted my payasyougo simcard from o2. In some places i get the 'E' in the top left hand corner, i take it this is edge covered area however when i try connecting it says you are not subscribed to edge, couldnt connect or something similiar. I have read you need an O2 SIMPLICITY CONTRACT SIM to get EDGE so i take it this must be true but i have a few questions.

Is there anyway i can get standard GPRS connection on o2 pay as you go sim and how much it cost per minuite?

If i purchased a simplicity simcard and unlimited internet bolt on would i pay for edge and if i wasn't in an edge internet area and changed my setting to connected via gprs would i be charged or is edge a free service wherever you are and how fast is it? Also would o2 be able to quickly change my current o2 number to the simplicity sim and do they collect payment as direct debit?

I am impressed so far, i just need to sort out my internet problems.

o2 data without a bolt on is charged at £1 per mb, so it's very pricey. i was charget £6 for 6mb when it's only £7.50 for unlimited access (i used 320mb last month, but it was a new toy then, the "limit" is 200mb)

with the data bolt on it doesn't matter if it's edge or gprs, it's all covered. you just don't get edge in all areas or if the signal is poor

if you already have an o2 sim, i think they can probably add you to simplicity with you keeping the same sim and number. simplicity isn't a speficic sim chip, it's just the name of the contract. likewise if you cancelled a contract you can ask for your sim to be used as a PAYG so you can keep your old number for emergencies (that's if you wanted a new number)
