Samsung 42" Convergance Problem

Hello,

As a newbie I'd like to say what a great resource this site has been for me so far and it's about time I signed up ( as I've just got permission to set up a home cinema in the very near future so I guess I'll be using it a lot more)

I had a few issues with the convergance on my 42" rear projection TV. I found out there is a common fault with the convergance IC's in these Samsung TV's so I ordered a couple of STK392-040's off Ebay, removed the board, desoldered the old ones and put the new ones in. Hey Presto! it worked! (I'm no TV engineer either) Only problem is there is still a very small convergance issue on the left hand side of the screen and I can't sort it out with the menu. Can anyone give me any pointers?

Many Thanks, Jamie.

I know nothing about the Samsungs but i had the same problem on a Toshiba, i braved it and went into the service mode where there was a grid where you could set adjust the convergance at any point of the screen, this sorted the problem out.

Do a search in this forum for your model number to see if anyone else has had the same problem or how to get into service mode

Re: Samsung 42" Convergance Problem

It appears that there is a slight rainbow effect on the rhs of the screen that gets worse the longer the tv is on. Looks like something might be getting a bit too warm?
