I thought that I'd better tell anyone thinking of buying a Fujitsu P50XHA10 that the desktop stand that Fujitsu are trying to sell for it doesn't actually fit the display.

Fujitsu UK are trying to tell people that the P-TT4200-S stand will fit the P50 (see their website), even though the plasma's manual says that the stand required is the P-TT5000-S (the numbering seems a big clue to me).

NexNix ordered me a P-TT4200-S (on Fujitsu's advice) and it arrived almost a month ago. After some toing and froing because it had a part missing, I received another stand with all the requisite bits. It has holes that are marked for use with a 50" monitor, but they do not match the P50. I can only assume that they work with the old 500x series.

After several weeks of phone calls of the "it doesn't fit", "oh yes it does" variety, NexNix's distributors finally admitted that the only way to get it to fit is to buy larger washers to stop the bolts (and therefore the plasma) falling out of the stand! This is because the upper holes on the stand do not match the bolts on the plasma and so the bolts have to go through a wider, channel-like gap and will not be secure without bigger washers. The other downside of this is that the bolts don't actually rest vertically on the stand - they are only fixed horizontally by the washers.

I'd imagine that it would probably be ok with the right washers, but I'm not sure I want to risk five and a half grand on whether or not I buy the right washers from B&Q.

The distributors contacted Unicol to see if they do a stand that fits, but they won't have one for a week or so. As a result the distributors have organised a professional installer to come round tomorrow and fit mine by hook or by crook. It sounds like it needs a bit of improvisation, so I'm much happier that the improvisation is being done by a professional.

Having said all that, the plasma itself is great. I risked standing it up in its packaging for a while and was more than happy. However I don't trust the packaging any more so it's been unplugged and leaning against a wall in another room for the last few weeks!

It sounds like not only is Fujitsu's attitude less than satisfactory(see other threads) but they are also pretty incompetent when it comes to accessories.

Apologies for this post going on a bit longer than I intended - I'm currently in "rant" mode. To summarise, if you're thinking of getting a P50 (and I can recommend them) and you need a stand, then it's probably worth going to Unicol rather than Fujitsu.

Cheers,
Ian.

Hello Ian

Good heads up and I'd want a written assurance from Fujitsu UK that if your display is damaged by or separates from the stand after they have had it 'professionally 'butchered' sorry 'fitted' then they will be liable for any damage caused.

I'll bet your user manual says you must use the correct accessories as laid out in the User manual.

Best regards

Joe

Well the installer came round and was very helpful. He admitted that he had looked at the stand and thought that it wouldn't fit for the reasons I mentioned. However, he had contacted Fujitsu and they had reassured him that it would be ok.

Apparently the top bolts don't need to rest on the stand and so it's fine that they go though halfway up a channel rather than at the bottom of it. They are only used to keep the display attached to the stand, not to take any of the weight.

The washers were an even more worrying issue (being only a couple of millimeters wider than the channel) and he says that he took a lot of convincing by Fujitsu. However he reckoned that the advice from the distributors was wrong and that I should use them rather than buying ones from a hardware store (as the distributors had done and had suggested that I do). This was because they were ridged in a way that fitted into the channels.

We decided to put the bolts in the lower (42") holes, because the upper bolts would have been about 1cm from the top of the stand and it therefore felt safer lower down (and looked a bit better I felt).

In the end he didn't do anything that I couldn't have done - I just needed the reasuurance that it would be ok.

I'm still a bit suspicious, especially given that the user manual explicitly states the use of my P-TT4200-S for the 42" and a P-TT5000-S for the 50". However he seemed to know what he was doing and the distributors have promised to replace my stand with the mythical P-TT5000-S, should it ever appear.

It's so good to have the screen up and running again.

Cheers,
Ian.
