VCR Question.

I'm awaiting delivery of a new sony vcr and was just wondering about connections. Do video's output an RGB signal or is it just composite? and can you loop through an s-vhs signal if the video is not an s-vhs video?

Composite although some do allow for RGB loopthrough if an RGB device is connected to the second SCART.

They don't allow For S-Video loopthrough (AFAIK)

Cheers. Another question, my ntl outputs an s-video signal, would there be a problem recording off this or would I need to change it to composite?

You have S-Video out via SCART on your ntl stb?

Lucky you! I have to convert the RGB out to S-video to my SVHS VCR via a seperate converter.

However, do you have RGB out as an option?
If not then you are missing out as this is MUCH better quality than S-Video where cable is concerned.

Anyway....

If the only options you have is S-Video and Composite then select S-Video and connect TV SCART from the stb to a S-Video compatible scart on your TV. You may have to change some settings on your TV menu or via a switch if it's an older TV. Otherwise you'll get a B&W picture.

Then just simply connect another scart to your vcr via the AUX SCART on your STB.

To record off cable just select the AV channel on the vcr.
Playback of video is on the same TV AV channel as the one the stb is connected to.

Am I right in thinking that the vcr out scart on ntl outputs a composite signal even though the tv out is s-video?
And I don't have the option of RGB with ntl but this suits me as my dvd player is in the Rgb scart on my tv.

Yes, as well as composite in so you can playback video through your stb.

The S-video/Composite setting is for the TV scart only.

ok so let me get this straight( sorry about this it's been years since I've had a vcr!). So the scart that goes from the stb to the vcr will act as a two way signal so that the stb will loop through the video output when watching films?

Cheers Kevo, you've been a great help. That solves the lack of scart socket problems then.
