Auduca MPS-1 Speaker System for £79.99 - any good?

Hi,

I have just come across this Audica MPS-1 system for £79.99 at www.bigpockets.co.uk

I have bought from this company before, so i know they are good, (otherwise i'd be suspicious since the price is so good!) but i was wondering if anybody knows if this system is any good?

It got a 5 star What HiFi rating etc but it looks quite small to me, so i was wondering if a similarly priced sub/sat system might be better?

The cheapest price i can find elsewhere on the net is over £200 for the same package (Amazon UK, but with a 5 week wait!) so the fact they are normally £200+ should mean they are good.

I don't want to go just by the what hifi review so if anyone can help, that would be cool.

Jason

Re: Auduca MPS-1 Speaker System for £79.99 - any good?

I got the exact same email and wondered the exact same thing - looking at them they are a 2.1 system and on that basis I would say the roth audioblob system at richersounds is a better bet as it comes with a sub. I am sure the 'detail' from the audica system is better but overal would say the rother is better sound and value at half the price again

Well as a speaker package there not the best thing around. I've heard the 5.1 system that uses these speakers. They are far from terrible but from my experience better sounding products around.
To me they lacked clarity & sparkle sounding somewhat grey & muted. They require more explosiveness & guts.

I find them difficult to recommend even at the bigpockets price. Whether you'll actually get an improvement at the price they are being sold for tho' is a different matter.

Re: Auduca MPS-1 Speaker System for £79.99 - any good?

I've just bought a set for the spare room to use mainly with my PC. For the price they're very good. Build quality and finish is very good. Not worth the RRP, but a bargain at the BigPockets price.

Nice to have a separate amp and speakers rather than the usual amp in the back of a speaker bodge. I was previously using a old Pro-Logic receiver with some surround size Eltax speakers, then went back to a old set of (expensive at the time) Yamaha PC speakers when I needed desk space back. The Audica's are much better. A tad boomy at the bottom end but that's not unexpected with small cones and a ported speaker. I'd far rather have these than some Creative Gigaworks T20/40.

Re: Auduca MPS-1 Speaker System for £79.99 - any good?

Bought a couple of sets of these, for the kitchen and spare room.

They're rather good actually Much better than I expected. At RRP you're obviously paying a little for style, but I'd actually still be happy if I'd paid full whack.

Best of all the lady in my life thinks they're rather fetching too, and offered to pay towards them First time for everything

For anyone interested, although BigPockets have sold out, there's plenty on ebay going for similar prices.
