Burning .avi's?

I use Maqc the Ripper to rip my dvds then Popcorn to burn my .ts files. What would I use to burn .avi files? and is there any loss in quality when ripping a dvd to a video .ts file?

Re: Burning .avi's?

Try VisualHub to convert to MPEG2 and then Toast / Burn to burn to DVD.

Unless you are re-encoding it to make it fit on a single sided DVD there should not be any quality loss.

Regarding the .AVI burning the question is missing something and that is what do you want to watch them on.....For example some people just burn several as a data DVD since there DVD player can play them, or they use them on a computer. But if you want to watch them on any consumer DVD player than you are into transcoding with quality loss and time loss associated to that task...

Out of interest why wouldn't you let VisualHub also do the burn?

In that case forget about any of the compressions, rip them as VOBs IN VIDEO_TS directories so that you can easily and quickly burn them via any tool. HD Space required will be 4.7-8.7Gb per movie

Alternatively buy yourself a new DVD player like the excellent Pioneer 400/600 but also many el-cheapo supermarket alternatives available and create DivX AVI's with AC3. HD Space required will be 800Mb-1.6Gb per Movie and you could burn three or more on a DVD to watch....

There was an update out yesterday FWIW, but yes on converting to DVD there's a check box for "burn when done".
