As per title. ££££ Spondoholics waiting
I'm a begineer and really really stuck. :(
I've bought an Onkyo 605 and a a set of Kef 1005 eggs from Richer Sounds but i can't get anything hooked up properly....I just don't know enough about the art of what i'm doing and the complication of putting AV gear together. I need help :(
I have an Oppo 981HD DVD, SKY HD and XBOX 360 HD version (so 3 lots of HDMI to sort out, though i do have a Joytech 1 in 3 out, or is that the other way round 3 in 1 out .
I also have a wii (via componenent).
All this is going into a Pioneer 507XD, connection wise a pig in its own right for getting hooked up (well seems to be for me!!!!).
I'm hoping there's someone out there that I could pay to kindly sort this out for me. I know it's a little more than ISF calibration (hooking a few things together as well) but i'd love to get the screeen ISF calibrated once its all hooked together and running. I go back into hospital monday (geniunely) and the missus wants the cabling tidied up once and for all before then which is the reason for my haste to get it done this weekend  LMK if anyones in the area and interested.

give us a shout if no one has time to drop by - I'm from S. Yorkshire (Bawtry, near Doncaster) originally - but I live in Germany :o)
I'd be happy to download the manuals and guide you through the setup - and least to get the basic stuff working. Tweaking then becomes a new subject to study :o).

Cabling up isn't a difficult job at all, the calbration is the difficult part. Whereabouts in Sth Yorks are you?

Poblem is after time you get blinkered and with sooo many wires running around the cabling up suddenly becomes a complete nightmare for your average newb. I'm smack bang off J36 of the M1. Right in the middle of a triangle between Barnsley, Sheffield, Dony.

I sympathize but am not close enough to help. A suggestion... Slow right down ..it's all too easy to get lost in the midst of tangles of wires and then go into a state of mild panic.
Second - do your cable runs to the position of your receiver - you didn't mention what cables you had bought and where you had bought them from ... Richer ? This will keep your wife .. Relativly .. Happy since the cabling will at least LOOK tidy even if it wont actually DO very much.
Third. Once you have a rough positioning of your speakers cabling ... Call Richer Sounds and ask for further guidance. Richers are a Decent Dealer and will try to help .. though they wont come out to rig your system for you they will advise and IF you really need it they will I'm sure recommend a local - to you - installation technician.
One Stage at a time .. approximate positioning of leads .. including leads from your various AV components as well as your speakers .. and then phone Richer for support. Good Luck ... believe it or not it can be Fun if only you Slow Down and don't slip into Panic Mode.
Calibration of your Plasma Panel is the last step in this process and comes only after your screen has over 200 hours of bedding in time.
Just get the cabling and various signal sources in place first and then settle down to enjoy your system.
Above All ..... Don't Panic !

Does it have to be this weekend? I don't mind coming over to give you a hand, but I'm carless until next week as I've borken mine and am waiting for parts (makes mental note not to buy french again:rolleyes:).

Wise words.
Are you using the amp for audio all of the time or do you sometimes use the Pioneers speakers? I'm thinking Sky direct to the panel with HDMI and the Oppo and 360 into the amp if you do, then run a second HDMI from the amp to the Pioneer. You can use optical out on the Sky box into your amp then for audio (or take it from the pioneer so that freeview audio can also be played through the amp).
Then you have the coice of running Wii through the amp and it will switch through to HDMI so that you only need one cable to the pioneer, or connecting the Wii to the screen and running a seperate audio cable for the amp.
There is a short video guide on the AVLand website, but its just a general overview.

Thanks fellas, for all your advice, been working on this pretty much all day so only just got a chance to reply. I took some advice from the actual Onkyo forum where i also posted in my "panic" :( . The guys on there pretty much suggested I do exactly what you said Miniholic. All is working now, though I still want it isf'd :smashin: (Yes its been run in for well over 600 hours Arnold
Just to clear up a few questions to all asked incase anyone comes back to this-
@ ARNOLD-Thanks 4 your keep calm comment
speaker wires are QED as is most of the cabling except some ixos and it all comes from hificables.co.uk. Probably about £300 pound worth in the whole system, every one of those is cabled/buried/hidden into the walls, hate seeing visible cables:nono:.
The only reason i bought the Onkyo from Richer was the hype being placed on the price and verdict of this amp when buying from Richer on this very forum, wouldn't usually go there;).

There, See .. I Knew that you COULD do it ! Well done - and don't underrate your choice of Richers .. even specialist dealers can be overrated at times and - Sadly, since I used to enjoy their ' where in Hell did they get That ' catalogs - Richer Sounds has progressed rather far from their Pile Em High An' Sell Em Cheap origins to being a Large Screen Plasma/LCD and audio support of same dealer.
I agree with the principle of making the cables disappear .. and your cabling is pretty good.

Glad to see you got it sorted. :smashin:
Looking at the whole job can be bewildering, but at the end of the day, its just a few bits of wire;), and now you'll be an expert if you need to swap things around when you get that upgrade bug.
