newbie dvd player question
hi,ive brought a new32 inch tv today and use my xbox 360 to play dvds through a component lead,when i play dvds it comes up 576p,if i buy a hddvd player will this go up higher then 576p and make my dvds better or not,thanks

HD DVDs will go to 1080i over component but standard DVDs will not be upscaled over the component lead, you will need to use the VGA cable to get upscaled Std DVD (you don't need the HD DVD drive for this).

Also upscaling in the player will not neccesarily make your dvd's look any better as your screen will upscale all inputs to its native resolution anyway.
It just depends which does the best job, the screen or the player.

ok thanks,if i buy a upscaling dvd player and connect it with a hdmi lead and not use the xbox will this make the dvds better,thanks

Same answer. It depends which does the best job of upscaling, the player or the display?
What you have to understand is that the display will show any source at its native resolution.

ive just had a mate come round and he says im useing a composite lead which is red/white and yellow,and to get the best dvd picture the lead would have to be a hdmi lead,he says buy a hd drive for the xbox or a a upscaler dvd player,which should by useing the correct leads should give you a better picture,is he right or not? thanks

Yes,he's right. 
Composite connection is pretty lousy to be honest. 
HDMI is the best connection.
