Re: newbie dvd player question

HD DVDs will go to 1080i over component but standard DVDs will not be upscaled over the component lead, you will need to use the VGA cable to get upscaled Std DVD (you don't need the HD DVD drive for this).

Re: newbie dvd player question

Also upscaling in the player will not neccesarily make your dvd's look any better as your screen will upscale all inputs to its native resolution anyway.
It just depends which does the best job, the screen or the player.

Re: newbie dvd player question

Same answer. It depends which does the best job of upscaling, the player or the display?
What you have to understand is that the display will show any source at its native resolution.

Hi schueybull
Yes,he's right.
Composite connection is pretty lousy to be honest.
HDMI is the best connection.
