I watched this movie this afternoon and it's excellent! Tells the story of one cop who's actually a triad plant in the HK police force, and another cop who's actually a plant in the triad gang that the first cop works for. It's very nicely filmed with solid direction and good performances throughout. There are some moving moments and lots of excitement, particularly towards the end.

The 2 disk DVD is presented nicely in a keep case with a slip cover.

The first disk contains two versions of the movie - the original HK theatrical release and a second version with an alternative ending. Looks like they used seamless branching (and it is seamless). Forget the second version however as this merely drops the excellent HK 10-min ending in favour of a brief lacklustre 1-min ending. I presume the second ending was made because.......

[SPOILER ALERT - DON'T READ THE NEXT PARAGRAPH IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE]

.... some Asian countries require movies to show criminals brought to justice. They are not allowed to 'get away' with it. The second ending meets this criteria.

[END OF SPOILER ALERT - YOU CAN CARRY ON READING NOW ]

The second disk contains some extras such as documentaries, music videos, etc but not all have English subtitles, so a lot was wasted on me...

The video transfer is mainly very crisp with good levels of detail.

I listened to the Cantonese DTS 5.1 track and it was superb - there are some great moments in there and some nice use of the rears and the LFE.

The English subtitles are mostly very good but there is the odd grammatical error and typo here and there but it's infrequent and not annoying. One problem with the subtitles however is that there is the odd occassion when they disappear far too quickly (e.g. one 2-line set of subtitles appeared and disappeared within a fraction of a second!).

At the price CD-WOW are selling this for, you really can't go wrong :smashin:

Overall, it was enthralling, and the way the 2 characters mirrored each other was very clever.

Cannot wait for Hollywood to spoil it!!

Yep, Infernal Affairs is a pretty good movie.

Fans of HK cinema should also consider So Close (http://www6.cd-wow.com/detail_results_2.php?product_code=4669) which is also going down a storm. :smoke:

Squirrel God, when did you order yours? I ordered mine on 24/02 from CDWOW but still haven't received it yet. Seems like everything take longer to get into Germany :(

BTW, had already watched this movie in HKG last Christmas, love it! I think the second ending is for China market as the reason explan by you.

Another one I'd watched at that time was the Hero, have you seen it yet? It is now only available in VCD because I think the movie is not yet shown on US. But I must say Hero is really divided among local HKG people, some like it but some hate it.

I pre-ordered mine and it arrived about 5 days after despatch. Mainland Europe takes longer I think. You can't go by the date you ordered, but the date it's shipped.

Hi S.G I've allready ordered my copy and it's in the post, I've just realised it says it's 5.1 DTS but my Panny HT80 hasn't got DTS Decoders it's only got the D.D 5.1.
When I play the movie will I get any sound out???, thanks for any advice.
