Hi there everyone

,
I've been interested in photography for a quite a few years but I've only been using DSLR style compacts, the "superzoom" types. Whilst it's been a bit of a hobby for me, I've not really done anything all that serious. Photo's for family and friends and what have you. I've wanted a SLR for a while now and I've taken the plunge and just bought myself a Samsung GX-10, great camera and I'm having fun playing around with it. Anyways, enough of that my question...
Why doesn't Aperture recognise the RAW files(.DNG)? After import, all the thumbnails are grayed and the main preview window says "unsupported image format". If I click on a thumbnail, for a split second a low resolution image pops up but then disappears (I'm assuming this is something to do with the way it caches the files). Quite frustrating as today was the first time I've been out into the wild with the camera and I shot everything in RAW. BTW, if I quick look the photos they appear fine. The thumbnails also show up fine in finder. Oops, sorry should have said, I use a Mac (as I guess you already know as I'm talking about aperture!).
I'm now trying Adobe Lightroom which handles the files ok (as you'd expect being .DNG files), but as I'm trying to decide which one to pick, the fact the aperture doesn't work almost makes my mind up.
Anyway, as a side question - What's best for managing and "developing" photos? Aperture or Lightroom? (The only two I'm aware off). As I'm only starting I don't know what to look for, so some advice from you more experienced peeps would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry to waffle on, cheers all,
Kev
