I have Freesat in my weekday crashpad, when browsing encrypted channels it states that I can add some for £1.00 a month. Is that true?

You have Freesatfromsky not to be confused with Freesat:)

Not quite, what it means is that for an extra £1 a MIX subscriber can add this channels package for an extra £1 a month.

Incidentally, when the new actual "Freesat" service comes out, will you be able to subscribe to additional channels such as UK Gold via your new freesat box like you can with top up tv anytime, or will it be strictly limited to free channels?

Freesat receivers will not have decryption modules built in. Maybe some will have a CI slot, but will UKTV wish to manage an encryption system? Not likely, so the simple answer is no.

There is no official SKY Videoguard CAM to use with STB's that have CI slots.
That aside we do not know if Freesat boxes will physically support CI slots or have the firmware to use them and if they did then the likes of UK Gold etc would have to broadcast using a different encryption system in addition to SKY's which would probably conflict with existing SKY carriage contracts.
Setanta may be different since they are not in a SKY bundle so could offer a separate PAY service again with all the stipulations in terms of CI support and encryption.

Thats what I thought, I'd be down to my electrical retailer as as soon as I could if Freesat was out!
