Anyone know if Police Squad (the original 6 episode TV series with Lesley Neilson) is on DVD, or coming to DVD?

Fantastic series, I love all that type of humour in such films as Airplane, Naked Gun or Top Secret.
Are the rumours true that the series was canned because Americans couldn't understand the humour :)

The films were funny and the first couple of episodes were also amusing but I would prefer to think that the series was canned because the Americans no longer found it funny.
I know that I certainly didn't.

FWIW - I have the series on Laserdisc. The last episode (I think it's the one where Drebin acts as a cabaret signer, Mr DeWonderful) has some of the music changed - presumably for copyright reasons. It was unchanged when shown on TV a few years ago.

Wasn't he asked "tell me everything that's happened so far" or something similar. The same line is used in Airplane with the zany Jacobs.

I just loved the running gag with the shoe shine guy. It really took the 'you know what' out of all those cliche'd cop shows.
Anyone who has ever seen the original Starsky + Hutch will instantly recognise this as one of their two crime solving techniques.
The first is the one above, only swap the shoeshine for huggy bear. Then apply a little good cop/bad cop routine. Then wait for the predictable...."you didn't get it from me, but the word on the street is....." (aaaahhhggg)
The second technique is :- show a montage of the cops asking questions around bars and joints. Eventually someone then tries to knock off the cop because he is getting " too close". The cop gets the better of the attacker, who then spills the beans.
I also loved the mickey take freeze frame endings.
