Dell Vostro 1500 Need Upgrading?

Hi just got my hands on a dell vostro 1500 laptop. It currently comes with a dvd re writer, I am actually after a dvd double layer re writer. Is it possible to get one of these?

Is there any catch/lever on the bottom of the machine to enable you to slide out the drive? If not then I guess you have to take the thing apart to replace the drive.

With regard to which drive to get - you could at least look in the device manager of windows and see the exact model of the drive you currently have installed. You can then look on the web for it's dimensions and match these to the size requirements of its replacement.

should be able to replace it no problem they are about £30 from scan or get one off ebay

only problem i can see would be the front bezel would have to be cut down a the one on the vostro is a funny shape

just out of intrest are you sure it's not dual layer you have as i was looking at the documents on dells website and it list that the vostro 1500 is dual layer

just had a look to answer a few of your questions

1 you can't upgrade your graphics card as it a intergrated one
2 if you have a copy of xp you can just re-install it
3 as for games not many really football manager and simpler games or older games
4 as for the dvd drive download dvdinfo here http://www.dvdinfopro.com/ run it and it should tell you what read and write functions the drive has

could i not just swap the front bezels over so then i can fit the dual layer dvd drive i get in the vostro with no cutting or anything

you can try but they have a bad habbit of breaking

the other way is to look on ebay for a replacement but they are usually twice the price
