LG L226WTQ and what I am entitled to
Hi All...
I really hope someone can help me here, I am pulling my hair out with this.
I bought an LG L226WTQ LCD monitor from overclockers.co.uk back in October 2007. The monitor was faulty and had a terrible ghosting issue. I sent the monitor back to overclockers within the 28 days return period and they happily replaced it with a new one. However, this one had the same issue. I attempted to send it back however it had now fallen outside the 28 days from original purchase date so I was referred directly to LG.
LG then informed me that no stock of that monitor was available for a replacement so they would take it in for a repair. They picked the monitor up on the 21st November and after two months of chasing them I finally got the monitor on the 22nd January. Only this time, the monitor now had a dead pixel still had terrible ghosting and it now buzzes - Loudly.
Now I want to just send it back and get a refund because I obviously do not want this same monitor. However, I am being told that they will not refund me and that they will take the monitor in for repair again.
What can I do about this, what is in my rights to do?
Thank you

Re: LG L226WTQ and what I am entitled to
I have just bought the same monitor from Misco, and it seems ok.
I had a 19" CRT (1600x1200) and comparitvely all I have gained is a bit of space on my desk, though I've lost some on-screen space.
though the monitor is a bigger screen, the output is less than the old CRT,
and the crt never ghosted.ever. The new tft does, though it only does so in very specific circumstances during gaming. (mainly large fast panning around corners of walls on certain maps).
This is the only issue I have, and to be honest, it's not bad, as it only does it very occasionally. (about three times last night during 4 hours online)
My first reaction to your request is to say eBAY, or try cash converters, though I must admit, I'd be really p'd off if I had no other option.
Somewhere during my forum searches I also came across a comment which mentioned monitors made before august 2007 (I could have the month wrong), but essentially those can be swapped with LG for newer ones, as they have a known ghosting issue. (something to do with firmware i think).
apologies for not have the exact details, but I thought I'd give you some feedback as nobody else seems to have any other info.

Thanks ThePetCat
I also read that post about the monitors before a certain date having ghosting issues. I mentioned that to LG but they didn't seem to care and brushed it off by saying they didn't have any stock of the monitors left anyway.
Thanks for replying anyway though.

Re: LG L226WTQ and what I am entitled to
I have now purchased a second one.... yip dual screens... 44"s of pure lg happiness.
The ghosting is worse on the "newer" one. But as I only really need one screen for gaming I've accepted it as being ok (no dead pixels, dark spots or light spots or any odd behaviour).
still.... my crt's are still in the garage... not quite ready to say goodbye to them yet - just in case....

Re: LG L226WTQ and what I am entitled to
Nice one...Would love to have 2 monitors, makes things so much easier. Well, I have finally been given some kind of resolution from LG. One of the techies from the repair centre gave me a call and stated:
"We know what the fault is, it is a common issue with this monitor, however, it is within LG's spec, so we are not doing anything about it"
Comeon LG, you know there's an issue with them and nothings being done about it.
I promptly called up head office again and asked them what the hell was going on. Reminded them that the overhead involved in trying to resolve this issue had now far exceeded the cost of the monitor and if it was still reasonable to carry on. Haha, they hadn't thought of that yet. So now I have been issued with a letter to contact overclockers.co.uk to arrange a like-for-like swap. Eventually, after arguing with them because they wanted to send me exactly the same monitor again, I got them to send me a Dell Ultrasharp 22". I should receive it on wednesday. Thank goodness.
I still cannot believe it took a company like LG so long to resolve a situation, I will truly never purchase another LG product again. never.
Thanks for your replies anyway thePetCat.
Cheers

Unless it was a second hand monitor you brought you shouldn't have had to deal with LG at all ,if any costs were incurred (by you)you need to threaten overclockers with trading standards to get them back .

Re: LG L226WTQ and what I am entitled to
Well, it wasn't a second hand monitor, however, I was left without a monitor for a number of weeks.
I will not use Overclockers again either. 28 days after the original purchase date they simply refused to handle the matter whatsoever and shoved me onto LG and even when LG told them to give me a refund or replacement they argued. From here on out, it's dabs.

Re: LG L226WTQ and what I am entitled to
I've just looked on their (overclockers) website & can see no mention of this 28 day "warranty" they seemed to be trying to fob you off with
However this is from the overclockers website:
Quote:
8. Warranty
8.1 All goods supplied by the Supplier are warranted free from defects for 12 months from the date of supply (unless otherwise stated). This warranty does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
8.2 This warranty does not apply to any defect in the goods arising from fair wear and tear, wilful damage, accident, negligence by you or any third party, use otherwise than as recommended by the Supplier, failure to follow the Supplier's instructions, or any alteration or repair carried out without the Supplier's approval.
8.3 If the goods supplied to you are damaged on delivery, you should notify the Supplier in writing via the e-mail address or fax number shown below within 7 days.
8.4 If the goods supplied to you develop a defect while under warranty or you have any other complaint about the goods, you should notify the Supplier in writing via the e-mail address or fax number shown below, as soon as possible, but in any event within 7 days of the date you discovered or ought to have discovered the damage, defect or complaint.
9. Limitation of Liability
9.1 the Supplier's total liability in contract, tort (including negligence or breach of statutory duty), misrepresentation, restitution or otherwise, arising in connection with the performance or contemplated performance of this agreement shall be limited to the price paid for the goods.
|
Not dealing with the problems themselves & making you deal with LG sounds like a violation of 9.1 above .

Re: LG L226WTQ and what I am entitled to
Hey guys,
I'm looking into getting this monitor, so it's worrying that you're having problems. I found this on the Ebuyer comments section, so I hope it helps!
Please post if this solves your problem, so I know whether to buy or not!
Quote:
I read of some ghosting issues due to response time compensation used on various brands of 2ms monitors mentioned on AVForums along with a very simple fix for the LG L226WTQ-SF which I thought might help a buyer here.
(You can check if you need it with MS Paint. Create a grey background and a red circle over it. Scale down the Paint window so you can drag it across the screen. If you have a ghosting issue the red circle leaves a halo and trail behind.)
Here's the fix:
1. Power off your monitor with POWER button
- Hold MENU button and keep it pressed while pressing POWER button
2. Press MENU button to enter Service menu
3. Change panel type
- Press SET button until PANEL text is yellow and press (-) two times to change it to LPL22W 4L
- Press MENU button to close the Service menu
- Press POWER button to power off your monitor and remove power cable for a minute and plug it in again
