Recieved my copy of Gandhi this morning and I noticed it said on the back 5.1 upmix. Please come someone explain what this means?
Thanks :)

I'm guessing it means they've created a 5.1 mix from the original stereo mix (or maybe it was mono for that film?). Anyway, channels are increased, so "upmix"....?

Thanks Squirrel.
Will give it a listen tonight on me system. See what it sounds like :)

It might sound ok, but the transfer is supposed to be awful.

I´ve heard that the picture is rather grainy, but like Gandhi´s sandals!
Superb film and well worth purchasing.:smashin:

Let's hope you say the same after you've played it at home on a bigger screen ;)

I got this film and theres nothing wrong with the PQ.
The sound is remixed from stereo into 5.1 but nothing much comes from the rears anyhow

gandhi is hardly an all action movie anyway but it must be difficult to create rear sounds when they weren't recorded in the first place.

Not really, no. Some upmixed 5.1 soundtracks are very good, they're just few and far between.

There was a man called Gandhi,
who went in to a bar for a shandy.
With his great loincloth,
he wiped off the froth,
and the barman said "blimey! thats handy!"
I thank you
