Re: best registry cleaner ?? worth it ??
I don't use a registry cleaner because I run into problems a few years ago having one, but a lot of people use ccleaner and its supposed to be ok and its free http://www.ccleaner.com/

Re: best registry cleaner ?? worth it ??
I use a Registry Cleaner called RegCure which I paid for but, although all the advertising hype said that I would see all sorts of improvements in the speed of my PC, I have to say that I have never noticed any difference and would definitely not buy again.
Hope that helps you make up your mind.
Cheers,
Martin.

Re: best registry cleaner ?? worth it ??
I use ccleaner too... and whilst I don't notice a performance boost as such (probably placebo!)... I do appreciate it removing all the cache files after I am done with the internet looking at the space I recover btw be sure to untick 'delete url/history' for browsers in the settings with this program. If you misspell a url or something you can always manually highlight-> shift+delete

Another vote for CCleaner -small file, fast and effective as mentioned for removing all temporary files and cookies etc and as a registery cleaner.

Re: best registry cleaner ?? worth it ??
I'd say don't bother.
I wipe and reinstall my PCs at least once a year. It's like getting a new PC again each time.
If you're smart and install Windows on C: and put all your data on D: it's a doddle. Redirecting My Documents to a folder on the D: drive makes your life simple for future installations.

And not using the 'my documents' system is even better

Re: best registry cleaner ?? worth it ??
Hmm..... registry cleaners...... once thought of an essential but more recently exposed as snake oil.
http://itqueries.com/?p=63
the latest thinking - and I agree with it - is that there's no need to clean your registry, in so much as there are no consequences or penalties of an 'unclean' registry.
The architeture of the windows registry (its pretty old) means that its size and contents have no impact on its performance.

from Wikipedia

technology journalist Ed Bott has claimed that no-one has ever succesfully managed to measure any significant performance increase from the use of a a registry cleaner.Any potential user of a registry cleaner must thus balance a probably negligible perfomance increase against a non-zero possibility of system instability.

Re: best registry cleaner ?? worth it ??
I use JV16 power tools.
While i don't use it regularly it does come in handy for tracking stuff down.

Re: best registry cleaner ?? worth it ??
I have used reg cleaners in the past with mixed results. However my laptop seems to have come to a grinding stop and so i will give cccleaner ago before reinstalling vista (not expecting that to be fun).
I just wish there was some cheap easy software that would get your computer back to fighting form without formatting / reinstalling. As the idea of reinstalling World of Warcraft and its 100million addons doesn't sound like much fun.
