Best Backup Sware for Vista and SATA disks ?

Hi,
I am having mega traumas with my existing backup software.
I have been using Acronis Home 10 quite successfully on my Pentium 4 with IDE disks running XP.
Just got a new Q6600 PC running VISTA Home Premium with multiple SATA disks.
When I tried to backup and restore first time with Acronis, the program refused to boot the new disk. Acronis have suggested I need new ver 11, at a cost.
I am now VERY reluctant to trust this sware with my backups since I lost 2 days effort and data..

I have already tried Norton Utilities and found that lacking since their takeover.
SO, anyone running a reliable package on Vista and SATA that will also be backward compatible with XP .
I normally take a complete sytem disk image copy every month, or before a major program install, and use that to restore the complete disk should Windows start hiccupping
Recommendations please.

I run Vista Premium, with multiple Sata disks, Acronis 11 is the most compatible.

However Norton 360 has an excellent backup program included, which I prefer.

The backup & restore part of 360 can only backup individual files and not do a complete disc image - as I found out to my cost . I have since bought Norton Save & Restore that does work on both Vista & XP. I have even restored both OS's with it so know it does work well. I find it very easy to use, but I use Ghost at work and this is basically Ghost anyway and they cost the same to buy.

Mark.

Re: Best Backup Sware for Vista and SATA disks ?

You guys have caused me to think ' it must be me' !!
I have always used the 'old Ghost', very much on a day to day basis in my old 'field 'days. But when I actually bought.. YES BOUGHT.. Norton Utilities last year it seemed to have a will to take over the whole PC , to justify its file recover utility. I found the HDD would almost jump up and down with the excercise it was getting, every time you booted.
SO I actually BOUGHT ..yes BOUGHT AGAIN..Acronis 10 and thought what a good buy it was... until now...
SO, do I BUY..yes BUY AGAIN .. Acronis 11

Incidentally, someone suggested it was best to use Acronis from the boot CD rather than from within Windows, hence the reboot... any thoughts on that ?
more recs please.

Interesting.. do you boot from the Acronis CD or from Windows and do you have to choose which SATA disk you reboot from ,,before you reboot , or at reboot and go into the BIOS to change it.
I never realised this was the main difference to IDE.

No, from Windows Bios, does the job, Bios chooses the disk with system.

Acronis is only a standby

The Bios selects the correct disk to boot from.

Acronis is not used at all.
