Exclamation help:Setting up new home cinema components

Hi there guys

I have the following set-up:-
ONKYO 7 Channel Home Theater A/V Receiver - TXSR605E (TX-SR605E)
PS3
SKY HD
Pioneer PDP-506FDE with Media box
Speakers - Duo Acoustics Duo-77

New to the home cinema community - I have no idea how to connect all components other than the basics would really like to get the best out of my set up.…..please can someone briefly explain the connectivity and any glaring mistakes I’ve made in choosing these items. Do I need a dedicated DVD player or will the PS3 do??? Should I really be looking to replace the 50in Plasma with a LCD …..Would appreciate as much help as u can spare guys I’m a novice at all this …all the best for the New year and thank you in advance!!!

Re: help:Setting up new home cinema components

Use 3 x HDMI cables for video & audio
Use RCA from PS3 for CD playback

PS3 > 605 HDMI
PS3 RCA out > 605 RCA In (CD) For playing CDs
Sky HD > 605 HDMI
Sky HD optical Out > 605 optical in for 5.1 audio from Sky HD
605 > Pioneer Media Box HDMI

The PS3 will work fine as a CD & DVD player
If there is nothing wrong with the Plasma and your happy with why buy an LCD?
I have a Pioneer 436XDE (2 years old) and I have no desire to get an LCD or newer Plasma (if it ain't broke don't fix it)

Re: help:Setting up new home cinema components

Make sure on the PS3 Bluray you select the correct soundtrack - press Select and check the sound is Linear PCM (uncompressed sound). You may have to change the Bluray settings on the PS3 to make sure it is outputting Linear PCM.

You will want to get your speakers in place and run Audessy sound config on the Onkyo to set up the levels etc (then fiddle with them yourself).

I would suggest using "Multichannel" surround on the Onkyo for Bluray/games.
