windows 2000 log on password issue

Hi,

I have come to logonto my laptop today and the password wont work??? - I havent changed it. What is the standard administrator password for windows 2000? - Is there a way I can log on without reformatting the hard drive?

Thanks in advance

Re: windows 2000 log on password issue

I suggest pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del twice and logging onto the Administrator account, then just resetting the password from the Control Panel.
Or....http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=321305

This works, but its not free unfortunately.

What you can do however, is remove the password, or configure auto login, therefore passing the login screen in both cases.

If you want the account to login automatically, here's what you have to do:

Click Start, click Run, and type control userpasswords2

Clear the Users must enter a username and password to use this computer check box

Click Apply

Enter the user name and password you wish to automatically log on with, and then click OK

Click OK again and you're all done

Re: windows 2000 log on password issue

Thanks for reply

I have tried pressing cntrl alt del twice but get the same log on - I have put in administrator in the user name and no password but still cant log on.

How can I get to start run with logging on first?

Thanks

Try "admin" as user name.
