Hi, I am new to this forum, and it looks very informative. I have read a basic paper on FREESAT, that should start hitting the streets some time next year (being trialled now I believe). However, I do NOT want to jump in an buy the first batch of stuff on the shelves next year, I want to make an informed choice, based on expert input.

I want to buy a reasonable "future proofed" FREESAT receiver, that would allow proper processing of any HD (1080P) programs, and have suitable (HDMI 1.3) rear connections to get that to my 1080P Samsung TV. I know I have seen references to some HDD twin-tuner units, but the 2 I saw on a site do NOT show HDMI sockets at the rear.

If any trade or non-trade experts have any input or recommendations on this, I am sure others might be interested too. Regards, Tony.

As far as I'm aware no specific STB's have been announced at this point that will work with the new EPG.

No 1080p broadcasts exist even in countries that have had HD broadcasts for many years so I'd say the chance of freesat being 1080p is virtuall nil. You mention future proofing but some things are too far off to cover and it's unlikely a box wil support formats that don't exist.
