Silverstone LC16M, can I use a ir reciever other than the vfd display?
I have a Silverstone LC16M, can I use a ir reciever other than the vfd display?
I have had to relocate the pc inside a open backed cabinet with doors at the front.
It seems too loud to listen to anything with the doors open, therfore I have to close them, thus blocking the contact between the remote and the system.
Is there a usb device I can plug into the back on the system and place on the top of the cabinet to use as the reciever for the remote?
Thanks

The only thing I know of is the microsoft remote http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=143741
or could you use a domestic remote extender?

One of these or something similar. Allows you to put your devices in a cupboard and still control them.

Thanks I get what you mean, though I'm not sure they'd work with the pc or not

Re: Silverstone LC16M, can I use a ir reciever other than the vfd display?
Hi,
I have the exact same silverstone case and for different reasons (1.5 year old son) I too had too put it into a cabinet with solid doors.
My solution was to get the relativley inexpensive microsoft remote which has a very long USB lead so i could route it outside of the cabinet.
It actually has a much longer range then the Silverstone one, orthough it's no where near as configurable.
Hope this helps

Thanks for that, I'm not too bothered if it aint too configurable, as long as it works winamp, powerdvd and the imedian or MCE (which I might change to) then Im happy

Re: Silverstone LC16M, can I use a ir reciever other than the vfd display?
I run both controls on mine, sounds daft but my other half is partially sighted and finds the larger buttons on the microsoft control easier to use. AFAIK the ms remote will only drive media centre so you may have issues trying to control other apps.

Thanks for the replies.
These IR extenders (which you mentioned):
http://www.letsautomate.com/10404.cfm?
do sound about the best sort of thing, but is there anywhere that tells you if their compatible with the silverstones remote?
Is there any more sites, models about anywhere as I cant seem to find any, and none of the shops like currys etc.... stock (or even heard) of them.

Re: Silverstone LC16M, can I use a ir reciever other than the vfd display?
I would guess that it'll work ok as the silverstone remote is a normal infrared type - but it is a guess!
If it were me, I'd buy the item and return it if unsuitable under the distance selling regulations. The site I linked to earlier gives you 30 days to do this rather than the usual seven.

Re: Silverstone LC16M, can I use a ir reciever other than the vfd display?
I have now tried my other halfs video sender with it (obviously just the infrared part not video) and it works a treat, but she wants it back for sky in the bedroom
I have however found this at Argos:
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...2Bcontrols.htm
Looks like it may do the job too, he hopes

Re: Silverstone LC16M, can I use a ir reciever other than the vfd display?
I have a solution for you for £14 delivered.
It's a wireless X10 Media remote that uses a USB reciever that can be used through walls (no line of site). It's new & unused but I bought an ir reciever instead as I wanted to run averything off my Harmony remote. Works media center fine & can be configured with the likes of Girder or EventGhost for other things.
I did have it listed on here just before Christmas but no one was interested then. I'll try & find the info.
.
.
.
Here's the info
With the dongle in a USB port & driver downloaded from the web, the remote is functional in MCE2005 or Vista Media Center. Does not need line-of-site.
Bought but never used as I ended up building a media PC with built-in infrared & now use my Harmony multifunction remote for everything.
EventGhost is freeware if you've not used it before.
