View Full Version : SONY KDL40V3000 or SAMSUNG LE40M86BD!!
Hey guys,
I am in the market to get a new TV, especially with the sales. I have done alot of research and I have narrowed my choice between those two TV's.
If anyone who have some experience with them, could help me.
Thank you & have a good x-mas.

Damm, & now Curry's are doing the Sony for £899  HERE (http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/490216)
Really didn't want to see that, there is nothing wrong with my rear projection (much :god:)
Perhaps I may be fortunate enough for one of my little girls to get over excited tomorrow morning and launch a toy through it :lease:

I was wondering exact same question, Sony has good quality but Samsung although maybe not as good is still pretty good & cheaper for what you get
I can get the M87 for £750 versus the V300 for £899, the main thing that is throwing me towards to the samsung is that it actually comes with a 10 bit panel, wouldn't that be a big advantage over the V300 that doesn't have a 10bit panel when it comes to reproducing colours
The Sony is newer & that seems like a well good price but is it worth £150 more than the samsung considering it doesn't have the 10 bit panel & but it seems to have 1 000 more stated contrast than the samsung, also Sony gamma tracking seems to be more level overall on their sets compared to the M87s skewed gamma tracking

Nor samsung has a 10bit panel, because from nov and then uses cheaper 8bit panel instead of 10bit

Well, My budged is £900. My choice was between W2000 and M87. However, after the x-mas sale, I saw this offer for the V3000 and actually if you go to dixon and use Jan20 code, you can save another £20.
I thought about the F86 and W3000, but they are outta my budged.
Thank you for you help.

Thinking the same myself, got 1k to spend on a new TV, so
SONY KDL40V3000 or SAMSUNG LE40M86BD, I thought?
Think its the SONY for me, nothing wrong with the Samsung, but given the choice.
Also, the only problem with buying at Dixon's/Curries/Comet ect. If you ever take a product back thats faulty, its always a nightmare, well certainly in my experience anyway!
Bad customer after sales service with them guys, once they have your money, well thats it!
(I bet we've all been there)
Seen this SONY (http://www.asda-electricals.co.uk/shop/product/sony/bravia-40--fhd-id.html?) its at ADSA, and they don't mess around if anything should go wrong. They swap or refund no questions asked up to 12 months, I know, as I took bad a old CRT 32" Wide-screen TV on the last day of the grantee (364 days).
They payed me out in full!
Its something to bear in mind, I've also heard many a complaint on other forums about the Internet suppliers too. Whats easier, than putting your fault product in the back of the car and driving to the nearest ASDA, problem sorted! :lesson:
 And I'm not pushing ASDA here, TESCO/SAINSBURYS/MORRISONS many well offer a similar customer service deal too!
TERMS AND CONDITIONS APPLY!

Danni - that's quite expensive for the 40v3000.
I payed 667 from sound & vision bolton (pricematched with john lewis for 5 year warranty)
It's gone back up in price on s&v now, but still way cheaper than the asda price..

I really wouldn't pay that price for the sony, it's not worth it now as you can pick up for around £700

I've got roughly a month to decide what I want as well, and at the moment it boils down to those 3 :
Sony V3000
Sony D3500
Samsung M87
And I have to say that the more I read, the less I'm sure.
There's a slight difference in price, but, when you come to such sums, does 50£ more really make a difference (it does, but you see what I mean) ?
In the end, puzzled I am. All advice is more than welcome.

Better to start your own thread but i would say don't get samsung as there are so many faults. Sony is the better choice for piece of mind. As you have a month to decide why not wait and see what the new 2008 lineup brings.

ooooh, new lineup?
Interesting indeed. It's just that I like to plan a bit ahead, and, erm, spend some time at work doing something else than work, from time to time ?
Got the SONY KDL-40V3000 and I'm very pleased with it, and in my humble opinion it is better than my mothers Samsung LE40M86BD, but only just!
And I'm not just saying that because I have the SONY, I set both of them up, and see them both on a regular basis, and we've both had them a wile now. Again this is just my opinion, I'm not interested or have the time for forum arguments. Its simply my opinion!
Ok, from run a Blueray movie on a PS3 via HDMI cable at 1080p.
And also looking at BBC HD from a V+ BOX via a HDMI cable too at 720p, I found theses settings worked best for me.
Obviously this is a personal opinion, but probably gives a good starting point if you've just got one (SONY) and wanting to watch HD TV broadcast/BDmovie for the first time via the above inputs.
Here we go :
Picture mode ----------- Standard
Backlight ---------------- 9
Contrast ---------------- 75
Brightness -------------- 55
Colour ------------------- 65
Colour temp ------------ Neutral
Sharpness --------------- 5
Noise reduction -------- Low
MPEG noise reduction - Low
Black corrector --------- Low
Contrast enhancer ----- Low
Gamma ----------------- Low
Clear white ------------- Low
Colour space ----------- Standard
Oh, and welcome to the HD TV club
