[same Q originally posted in wrong streaming forum - sorry!]

I currently have a Showcenter 200, connected over component to an Onkyo 705 AV receiver which is connected to my Panny plasma. I use the Showcenter to stream AVI videos (with subtitles) to my TV. Afaik it also correctly shows all those fancy HiDef advertising movies found on the internet that plasma retailers use to show off their HD screens.

So what am I missing?

What can a "HD streamer" such as the Showcenter 250 HD or the D-Link 520 do that my current Showcenter 200 can not? I do not understand the sales pitch to start advertising "HD video streamers". Am I wrong when I think the Showcenter 200 shows me 720p or 1080i movies on my plasma? Or is there a difference in the support of digital sound?

Apart from access to a few more formats (mkv, etc.) there is not much that the new boxes do that the 200 doesn't already, in fact the 250HD looks like a 200 but with a new front fascia. Only thing I'm waiting on is a 1080p box cos right now my 200 is fine outputting 720p......

afaik, it doesn't play mpeg4 audio, which is a shame as I have quite a few video files with mpeg4 audio tracks.

but then my ps3 is slowly getting better and better as a media streamer.

Yes, AAC audio is missing, but my SC200 is still going strong.
I have a Popcornhour on order because it has HDMI output as well as component, which helps me in my setup, and it supports H264 video which the SC200 doesn't.
