Sky box with one Scart input...

Had Sky installed on Saturday for a pound.

Sky installer turned up with a tiny box made by "Pace" with only one Scart input.

I then run the input from the Sky box into the video, then out the video into the AV1 RGB input on my television.

I do not get an RBG signal - presumably lost because it's going through VCR...(?). This is what I said to the Sky bloke, and he agreed - and he said to give Sky a call and they'll come back and swap the box over to one with two Scart inputs on the back - He even wrote this down on the paper I signed.

So, I ring Sky and they tell me that they will not replace the box. I argue with them for ages, only to be told that the installer gave me wrong information and there is no guarantee which box I get. I repeat until I'm blue in the face that I have been told by a Sky representitive that the box will be replaced and that he wrote it down on his installation sheet - which I signed to say that I was satisfied with the installation - and was still told (by a Team Leader that I will not have my box swapped over(!) - i was then cut-off.

I was furious.

I rang back and spoke to someone else - she went and spoke to her supervisor (seven minutes on hold) came back and asked if I was recieving a picture - I replied yes - but not RGB! She put me on hold for a further ten minutes and finally said that someone is going to be out this friday to access the situation!

Unbelivable.

Anyway - quick question - would anyone be able to advise me on the most efficient/easiest/any way of connecting my VCR, Sky box and TV so I can easily record from Sky to VCR, and receive RGB?

Thanks.

I'm surprised you don't get pass through when the VCR is switched off. As you don't, it sounds like that you will need a scart splitter. This is basically a scart lead with a box on the end that has two scart sockets in it. They are quite cheap.

Am i right in thinking they are going to replace the box for one with 2 scarts

if so there is no point getting a switch box as you only have 1 RGB source, sky.

TV Scart on the sky box will be RGB compatable so put that to the RGB input scart on your TV

The second scart VCR is not RGB out (it does allow RGB to pass through though) attach this to VCR scart

Finally attach second VCR scart to a second scart input in TV

Yes - it's very thin - about a cm high. And yes - grey.

So they've just fobbed me off with a 'second box' type thing...

...cheeky b*stads!!!!

This is exactly the box. I thought it was a 'tadge' on the small side...

Thanks very much for this information. It will come in very useful when the "engineer" visits me this Friday.

According to their terms and conditions, it states that you do not have a choice of box... - so they could argue that you get what you're given.

I would imagine that the bloke'll come round and swap it straight away... but you never know.

Well Sky cant do that how they expect you to record from sky digital? As what normally happen is

AV1 on Sky goes to TV then AV2 on sky which is lable and VCR goes to your Video so you can record from sky.

Honestly I think you should have a proper Sky Set with 2 scart sockets with it being your first not that cheap crap i just shown you

My sentiments exactly.

Maybe they're trying to palm these off to customers who have only paid £1 for installation to save money..(?)

I am shocked they made them in the first place with one scart surely one of the advantages of having a second box is been able to watch one thing whilst taping another

so recording would be better off in the Bedroom

the sky -> vcr -> TV will work but not RGB

Well, in any case - I've been told by the installer that I they will swap the box - so swap the box they shall.

After this Friday when they've hopefully kept to their word, I will be seriously complaining and looking for satisfaction against the arrogant, rude, cow of a "Team Leader" who repeatedly told me that "it's not going to happen".

I have spoken to quite a few people from Sky today, and apart from the "I am the Team Leader and there is no-one higher than me" - mentioned earlier, I agree they they were actually nearly all very friendly and reasonably helpful.
