Compact sub for arcam/anthony gallo set up

Hi,

As a regular forum browser I'm after a little advice. I currently have the following kit-

3 Anthony gallo A'diva ti's (front three channels, micro tis to be added soon)
Arcam AVR 250 amp
A cheap DVD player (probably due to be replaced by a toshiba EP35 HD-DVD player)
A squeezebox for playing music(about to convert all my music to lossless....)

I am wanting to add a compact sub to this system - I spend probably about 75% of my time listening to music and the rest watching films. The living room is about 6m by 4m. Don't want to spend stupid money but then again don't want to buy something that I'll want to upgrade in the near future.

A few other issues - I have an 8 month old daughter so baby proof would be an advantage and eventually the sub might just get used for musical duties with an arcam A85(from preouts)/Arcam CD player when funds allow attic projector purchase.

Subs that seem to fit the bill - BK XL200, SVS SB12, velodyne SPL800(or microvee(!), REL T1(?).

Any help appreciated,

thanks,

Gareth

If you are asking about hevy weight localised items like subs, you should post your country of origin first.

So would the BK XLS200 DF do the job? Do I need to be concerned about my crawling 9 month old sticking her fingers through the speaker cone if I get something other than a downward firing sub?

Suppose any sub is going to be better than none......

I have a very similar setup to yours (AG Adiva fronts and Micros rear) and use a Velodyne SPL 800. Performance is fantastic for the size and if you can get one on a good deal, I would thoroughly recommend it.

I think the SB12 is one of the best in your list. With a 12inch driver it has more potential to deliver decent deep bass than those with smaller drivers. This would be my first choice because of my familiarity with the brand and the excellent service AV-Sales provide.

It would also be a significant step up from my next choice, the XLS200. I wouldn't worry about wandering fingers, just keep the cover on the front and apply a bit of discipline. Failing that turn it on full blast when the little tyke gets too close, they won't go near again, i have kids, I know

If you have read the various posts here you will know already these 2 are VFM favourites and performe fantastically for the money, you can't go wrong

In myoldhouse I used to have an Arcam AVR350 and AG Due's & A'Diva's. I had the BK XLS200 MKII which was excellent value for the money. I then upgraded to the SVS SB12+ and the overall performance of the speakers (as well as the bass) was in a different league. Go for the best one you can afford, you won't regret it.

My sub has metal grilles over the cones to prevent such issues.
