panasonic TH-42PH10

having done a search in this forum for this display and got not result can someone tell if ISF calibration would make an appreciable difference please as I just recently bought one. It seems that some have ridiculed the notion of spending £300 on calibration on a set that cost less than 1K. Could someone enlighten me ? thanks
Another thing - would the HDMI leads used have much of a bearing here. I bought some cheap CPC ( Farnell??)ones on recommendation which seem to work ok. Would I be best advised to buy more expensive ones in the context of ISF calibration that is?

Hi,

Yes I'd say that calibration of your set will make a good improvement. It isn't always possible to make the default settings on the panel be "correct". Where possible that is what I try to do though. It is likely that there may be a one or two click change in some settings on USER menu's to get it dialled in. The bulk of the clever stuff is done in service menu though.

HDMI cables...well that is a debate and a half. I believe that the quality of the cable can make a difference but it is not as significant as calibration. There are many here who will tell you that anyone who sees a difference in video quality from hdmi cables is dellusional. All I can say is that I was a sceptic then I set up a demo for a cable manufacturer and could see a difference that seemed repeatable.

Thank you Gordon. I more or less decided to go ahead with it but a friend saw it with its factory settings and was so impressed he felt the settings looked right
On making the settings default ,it was case of being worried about pressing the normalise button by mistake and blowing 300 quid down the drain .
As far as the cables were concerned I thought that if I could get an improvement then I would replace the existing ones later on to spread the cost but then wondered whether it would affect things if I'd previously had the set calibrated?

have a good Christmas
