Behringer Feedback Destroyer questions.
Just received a BK XLS200 sub today. Been told that a BFD used with Room EQ Wizard will improve my subs performance. So looking to get one.
Searched on the net and there appear to be several models listed below:
DSP-1124P
DSP-1100P
FBQ-2496
Anyone know which one is best? Also what cables (if any) do i need to order for the BFD?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi again
I would suggest first installing the sub where you want it to go. Then get REW downloaded (it's free) and installed and buy or borrow a SPL meter (I believe the RS one for about £30 works well though someone else can give you the model number) Do a few REW sweeps and see what your results are. You might find by pure luck that your response is good enough without equalisation or you might be able to move the sub enough to get a decent curve. This saves you the cash if you don't need a BFD. If things are bad enough to warrant getting a BFD to balance out the peaks do it then. There's almost a permanent slow trickle of BFD's on Ebay so you shouldn't need to wait long for one to turn up.
As for the model numbers, the 1100 is the first generation, the 1124 is second and 2496 latest (and current). From the REW help pages they seem to rate the 1124 the highest though I don't know why or what it has over the new model (apart from price). Unlike the advice I've given you I have no sense at all and bought a BFD before I even have a sub and I bought a 1124
As for cables, no idea, I've not crossed that bridge yet

Re: Behringer Feedback Destroyer questions.
Morning
some details on the different models in this post
you need 2 standard analogue cables with RCA/phono connections at one end and mono 1/4" jacks at the other. You could also use an adaptor if you don't get cables made for the task.

Re: Behringer Feedback Destroyer questions.
From having a look around earlier, the 2496 is available for about £95 new with a list price of £133.
Stranely the Behringer site says that the 1124 is still available everywhere other than Europe

Re: Behringer Feedback Destroyer questions.
Thank you guys.
xxGBHxx i have already bought a RS SPL meter £18 delivered new from ebay .
I have found the 1124 model for £70 brand new from a shop and the 2496 model is £95 the lowest price from the net.
The 1124 is rated very highly in that other site indeed but i too dont understand why. On the other hand the 2496 is apparently faster than 1124. Oh yeah and estheticaly the 2496 is 'better looking' than 1124
Another thing i read is that apparently quite a few US users experience some king of 'hum' when using the FDP and they have to buy transformers to get rid of it. No idea yet if this is due to the low voltage they have or if it is a common phenomenon in the UK too.
I found another forum where the users were mainly musicians and used feedback destroyers for their instruments (or something like that). And in that forum apparently everytime someone mentioned Behringer FDPs it sparked a war of words with people complaining about the poor quality of the brand. I dont know if this is linked to the fact that the musicians used the FDP quite heavily (due to the nature of their job), or not.
I have seen the 1124 model oing for around £50-£60 on ebay but when it comes to electronics i am a bit scared to buy from ebay (dont know why, it must be some kind of phobia, even though i havent found a name for it yet ).

Re: Behringer Feedback Destroyer questions.
FDP = Feedback Destroyer Pro = BFD = Behringer Feedback Destroyer
Any musician or sound engineer worth his salt would steer a million miles clear of anything like the BFD (in general) for that kind of work. Complete rubbish and designed to cover up for incompetence.
For the use that the HC (home cinema) world use for equalising subs it's very well suited.

Re: Behringer Feedback Destroyer questions.
The 1124 is usually preferred because it offers 10 groups of 12 programmable filters.
This allows the owner to switch between music, LFE and (say) TV filter groups.
I know little about the other models except they only allow one filter group to be saved.
The advantage of having multiple groups (or sets) is that one can easily switch between two or more sets of filters to compare sound quality.

Does that feature take precedence over the working MIDI interface that BFQ2496 offers? I mean am i more likely to need the multiple filters or the MIDI interface? (i only need it for the sub from what i understand)

Re: Behringer Feedback Destroyer questions.
this is a functionality vs useability question. The latter is quite subjective, the former is not.
for me the midi interface is irrelevant as it takes v little time to dial in the filters manually, perhaps a minute to do the whole lot (I tend to have 3-5 filters). Bear in mind that this is something that gets adjusted pretty infrequently. Basically to set a filter takes 5 sets of "press button, rotate dial" + a final press of a button, this is not a labour intensive task.
Whereas multiple sets of filters gives you functionality that cannot be replicated by a midi interface, i.e. the ability to switch between n filter sets at will.
I'd also add that not all 1124s have broken midi (mine doesn't though I forget which firmware revisions are broken) and there is a fix if you're good with a soldering iron.
Cheers
Matt

Re: Behringer Feedback Destroyer questions.
Ah i get it, the difference between MIDI--not MIDI is manual vs automatic input. Well i am certainly not scared of inputing manually so looks like 1124P is a winner so far. And for £70 brand new it is quite a good deal i think.

I mean to connect the sub+1124P+amp what cables do i need for which? The amp has 1 sub output, the sub has 2 channel inputs and the 1124P i am not sure what it has (i think maybe 2 inputs).

Re: Behringer Feedback Destroyer questions.
you run a cable from the sub out (phono) to 1 input (1/4" mono jack) on the BFD then another cable from the corresponding BFD output (1/4" mono jack) to the sub (phono).
Cheers

Re: Behringer Feedback Destroyer questions.
The 1124 is dual mono (stereo). Just use one channel.
The BFD has sockets on the back for 1/4" jack plugs or male/female XLR plugs.
Which cables and plugs you use is up to you. Music shops supplying pro gear to bands and DJs will have both types in many different lengths. All at silly low prices compared with the usual audio outlets. I wouldn't buy the cables until you know exactly what you need.
Note that the BFD must be turned on first and switched off last or it makes a loud bang in the sub or speakers.
