Strange disk usage label

Hi,

I picked myself up a Macbook Pro yesterday, my first mac! I am beginning to find my way around (I use Linux a lot so it's not too much different) but can't seem to find a solution to this strange problem...

I have added a label to show disk space on volumes on the desktop but it seems to be getting very confused and showing jibberish for the amount of free space.

See screenshot:

Can anyone explain this, or know of a fix?

Thanks!

There is a much better way - download and use the free iStat Menus. If you don't want it displayed on the Menu bar but in a widget get iStat Pro or for a single pane style get iStat Nano.

MacUpdate and Version Tracker are the best places to search for stuf. HTH

Re: Strange disk usage label

It's not really gibberish - it's just that the information line is considered too long to be displayed in a single row under the icon. I agree it's a bit silly - even resizing the fonts and/or icons doesn't seem to fix the problem.

Re: Strange disk usage label

P.S. When your free space drops below 100MB it will probably fit on the line and look okay so fill up your HDD quick!!

Just out of interest, what makes you think it's gibberish.

Or am I missing something?

Adium isn't just an MSN client, it will also handle:

AOL
Jabber
MSN
Yahoo Messenger
DotMac
Bonjour
Gadu-Gadu
GoogleTalk
ICQ
LiveJournal
Lotus Sametime
MySpaceIM
Novell GroupWise
QQ
SIP / SIMPLE
Yahoo Japan
Zephyr

It's fully "skinable" so you don't need to have some huge clunky interface as with the official MSN Messenger.

The only real downside is that it does not yet do video, which is why I run iChat and Adium at the same time. iChat if I need to do Voice/Video and Adium for anything else.

Re: Strange disk usage label

The is caused because of one of three reasons, your Icon Size or Grid Spacing is too small, or your Font Size is too big.

Take a look at this Screen Shot where the info appears to be wrong.

Now look at this one where it is shown correctly.

To fix it, Control/Right Click on the Desktop and select "Show View Options", then adjust either of those options mentioned above. I chose to increase the Icon Size.
