Harmony Range

Hello

Can anyone give me a brief overview of the Harmony range? What the differences are?

I want a remote to control my TV, DVD, Amp and Sky boxes.

The only one I dont like the look of is the 1000

Re: Harmony Range

A very brief overview:

550: Controls 15 devices and does everything you'd expect of a universal remote.

880: Has a larger full colour display.

890: Uses RF and separate IR emitters so the remote doesn't have to be pointed at the devices it controls. This is allows you to hide your devices in a cupboard but can also be useful to control a rack full of equipment along with a TV and PJ where it's not ideal relying on bouncing the IR off of walls or keeping the remote pointed at the rack when it performs the longer macros.

I have an 880 and am very happy with it but I can definitely see the benefits of RF.

Re: Harmony Range

525, or 555 seem fine for what you want.

The seating distance thing is quite annoying. Yeah it looks great from 20ft away.. so does my ex!!!. Grain is the best way to see that you are getting a good HD image. Use it to callibrate your equipment...

Re: Harmony Range

On a similar subject, I gave a H655 at present. Does a fine job (but eats batteries).

It's getting a bit battered and worn now - thanks to the children - the flap on the battery compartment isn't too happy and this affects operation sometimes since the batteries don't always stay connected.

Anyway, to cut to the question: Assuming the 655 is giving me all the functionality I want, do I need to look any higher than the 525 / 555 for a replacement?

Re: Harmony Range

I'm not 100% sure, I think the 525/555 should do the trick but you might be better off with the 885 in the long run as it has rechargeable batteries and a charging cradle.

Re: Harmony Range

Whatever you get, make sure you turn the "Glow" setting to Off. The batteries should then last for months. You can still activate the backlight manually with the "Glow" button.

Re: Harmony Range

Are the buttons on the 555 the same as the 525? I like my 525 but the buttons are a bit naff (cr@p)!!!! I would love an 8 series, my mate has one and it's great but I can't help feeling I would prefer another pronto if I was spending that much on a remote. Just don't know if I can be bothered with all that programming again! I prefer my remote to be a tool, not a hobby which prontos seem to be!

Re: Harmony Range

i've had a 885 and got rid of it due to it feeling a bit cheap and it never charged in the dock properly.

in the end i went for a 555 looks and feels good, and won't break the bank
