A 3d ready TV from Samsung

I may have to move to the US if the UK doesn't get some of this technology.
this seems similar to the 3d films that have been in the cinemas, the glasses wouldnt bother me as you forget there on, but do get a bit dizzy afer hehe.
another thing to look out for ''3d ready'' lol

Nice... I'll have to check that out! The picture quality on DLP's is so amazing, so I'm sure the 3d version will be really cool.

I personally love DLP and hope we do see some DLP rear pros here in the UK in the future. 1080p in 3D should be awesome.

Yeah, that Samsung 3D ready HDTV looks awesome--the pictures on their site look so real. I didn't know they didn't carry that in the UK yet... when do you think it will be available?

Agreed still think dlp offer the best pics hdtv wise...These look amazing i would of brought a dlp if they were not so hard to come across i had the samsung 46 dlp and a sagem they were brilliant sets,In the end i brought a plasma mainly down to the fact of the lack of dlp tvs.

Really, so DLP's are that hard to come across in the UK? Maybe that will change soon... they are actually cheaper per square inch than LCD's and plasmas on this side of the pond...

Well personally i struggled to find one apart of course for the awesome sony sxrd which was out of my price range:mad:No shops round near me seem to bother with them really everybody seems to want flat nowadays..And i wasnt prepared to go with some online shop i had never heard of...Also the new pioneer kuro that everybodys raving about is way overpriced when compared to what the sxrds can produce...Maybe things will change but i cant see it happening myself.

Please excuse the total n00b question but I assume that the video your watching has to be specifically filmed/recorded in 3D and it wont transform any 2D video into 3D?

I'm not normally a negative soul, quite upbeat most of the time, but this looks VERY proprietary all the way along the chain, from recording the picture to "active" glasses.
I don't deny it could be a very good and well thought out technology, but I reckon it has far too much against it.
If this exact technology is still being developed in three years time, I'll buy a Sinclair C5, drive over to Razor's place and buy him a beer. This is assuming he hasn't moved to the States (C5s don't float).
3d technology must have a future, and perhaps this is the technology that will cause enough interest for it to be developed further, but I'm not putting my money on the table for this version.

If you turn up in a C5 you will be more than welcome mate.
I am hoping some of this technology makes its way to the UK. IMO this really is next gen tv. Lets just hope it is feasible and backed by the big companies and movie houses. :)

The next big thing.
Now all we need is a medium with the capability to store and replay concurrently two separate 1080p24 video streams.
Now where are we going to get one of those from ........?

What is unique about this approach to producing 3d images that makes it television specific?

There's LOTS of discussion about 3D films all over the place if you go looking. I think it's the next big thing for cinema, and there are various ways to do it at home without needing another generation of HW. Here's a description of 3D DLP TV by TI:
http://www.dlp.com/hdtv/3-d_dlp_hdtv.aspx
Here is a 3D white paper:

Mitsubishi and Samsung have announced 3D capable TVs:

What is unique about this approach to producing 3d images that makes it television specific?Well, simply that it's the first 3D TV system that actually works without either b*llocksing up the colours or requiring you to keep your head absolutely still while watching. :) There are, of course, other methods available for front-projection setups (e.g cinemas).

ITA. DLP 3D is so much better than past technology. I've read that the active glasses will amazing picture quality and the color is sharp. I'm so glad that those red/blue glasses will be a thing of the past. I really want to see a movie using a 3D DLP HD set.

from clicking a few links it seems there are tricolour CD and glasses avaliable without the need for the specific DLP is this correct ?
can this technology be applied to exisitng screens IF the film is 3D, you wear the 3D glasess etc.. ?

hi,
after reading about these sets, it doesnt clearly say if the sets will come with the 3D glasses and software set or would we have to buy the tv set and then go out and buy the 3D glasses?????
as that would make it even more expensive???
i seen ppl already selling the glasses and films on ebay -
http://stores.ebay.com/Ultimate3DHeaven
i suppose if you wait about a year and dont buy the tv straight away there might be good deals coming out where as there sell the tv with the glasses, complete set.......

Hi, I just got my 50" DLP.
Heres the scoop on the 3D.
http://dlp.com/hdtv/3-d_dlp_hdtv.aspx#3d
It does not come with glasses. The tv is at 120HZ to provide 60HZ to each eye or something like that. Theres a plug on the back where the IR trasmitter goes that works with the glasses. The glasses are active 'shutter' design. You can get a HTPC to put the tridef software on and it can convert 2D REGULAR movies to the 3D. I saw a demo of the original Star Wars and it was way cool. Software and glasses here: http://tridef.com/home.html
Another cool thing was at the CES 2008. Google CES 2008 DLP 3D and it will show how the 3D can show a dual view or 2 things at once. 2 people get a different view- Multiplayer gaming was a hit.
