Unhappy Toshiba XE1 - Freeze up cure

My first post.

I've just replaced all my old kit with some nice new HD stuff and updated the XE1 via my network to Firmware 2.7.

Well after getting it all wired the XE1 would freeze on start up and would not go past the welcome screen.

Evidently this appears to be a common fault, and Toshiba's support line is nothing short of useless with regard to their help. They wanted to replace the unit which is all well and good, but no good if the replacement unit does exactly the same thing!

I don't know if my scenario will work for everyone but the cure was very, very simple.

I turned the XE1 on before any other equipment and it works perfectly.

If I turn the amp on first the XE1 will freeze.

So that's it basically, god knows why Toshiba don't offer this as standard advice.

Re: Toshiba XE1 - Freeze up cure

Can others experiencing freeze up with Toshibas try this?

It just might be a very big cure, not to mention pointing Toshiba in the right direction, too.

Could this be some sort of HDMI handshaking issue?

Re: Toshiba XE1 - Freeze up cure

Just adding some extra info.

I have yet to isolate which is causing the XE1 to freeze but its definetely HDMI related.

It might not be the AMP, I'm going to try a number of different scenarios later today to isolate the exact cause.

Re: Toshiba XE1 - Freeze up cure

I've narrowed it down to the XE1 not liking JVC's HD1 projector, as previously mentioned the XE1 will freeze unless it is turned on before said equipment.

I use an XE1 with a Lumagen and JVC HD1, works fine.

Is your XE1 firmware 2.7?

Maybe it likes the Lumagen.

Who wouldn't?
