Re: ipod-what do i need?

I don't know the answers to your other points, but my sister bought an iPod Classic 80GB no later than yesterday and was shocked to find that there was no charger in the box - I think she said that Currys wanted £25.99 for one.

Season's Greetings.

Martin.

Re: ipod-what do i need?

The 'official' price for the USB charger on Apple's website (www.apple.com/uk) is £19.00 I found the usual suspects over-charging (pun not mean't) for this item. A power supply what outputs 5V on a usb port will charge the ipod. The computer port will also charge it.

Win2000 is supported as is your 192k mp3 collection, you just need to download itunes from apples website and import the songs into that and then plug in the ipod to transfer them to the ipod.

I am one of the lucky ones with a charger becasue I bought my first iPod 3-4 years ago.
Shortly afterwards Apple did not provide a charger anymore.
I bought a charger for the car (Belkin) and this works fine, too.

This is the easiest way for a beginner:
All you need is iTunes (from the Apple webpage) and after installing it connect your iPod with the supplied usb cable. It will charge and automatically transfer all music you import/download into iTunes.

Have fun.

Re: ipod-what do i need?

Be warned that iPods have always been a little sensitive about charging voltage - certainly the 5G was, and I have heard that the touch and iPhone are the same. I have read reports of all of them being damaged by non-official chargers that were putting out slightly higher voltages than spec - and if you use a non-official charger, your warranty is invalid if the iPod dies.

I'm not saying that the official Apple charger is good value compared to the competition - as it isn't - but it is the only one that is guaranteed not to kill your iPod...
