will the EP-30 ever be able to output full dolby digital HD??
I've just bought a tosh ep 30 to go with my samsung 40 inch 1080p lcd, now my dilema is that i'm buying a onkyo 605 amp as everyone keeps raving about the sound qaulity over dolby HD.
I'm just wonder weather tosh will bring out a firmware upgrade for us tosh ep 30 owners who wish to out put in dolby HD....because if i remember correctly the tosh website states both models output dolby HD sound...of am i incorrect??
all answers are welcome!

Hi mate
The EP-30 can do HD audio now.
Can't send it Bitstream granted, but The EP30 will convert and send True HD and DD+ as PCM via HDMI.

The little TrueHD logo won't light up on the amp though.

Re: will the EP-30 ever be able to output full dolby digital HD??
Every time I read a thread like this I get angrier and angrier.
Looking at the prices of various players with/without analogue outputs, it seems that the cost of a decent (not world class, but decent) decoder that will change LPCM (as output by a player like this) to analogue must be £100 tops.
I mean look at the Sammy dual format player. 7.1 analogue outs, plays HD DVDs and BDs, and it's less than £500.
Can we have a cheap off-board decoder for those of us with amps with analogue ins please?
Cheers.

Yes, this worried me for a bit, but I quickly realised that my EP30 was doing the necessary to send DD+ or Dolby True HD to my Onkyo 605. The only thing missing was the logo. The EP35 sends bitstream and the amp does the necessary, that's when the logo lights up. Some say that's better but I expect that only with higher end equipement will the difference be heard. 300 with Dolby True HD sounds fantastic and Transformers in DD+ sounds amazing. My living room is small and my speakers are not the most expensive but sound great with the Tosh and Onkyo amp....Kef 1005 system.

Re: will the EP-30 ever be able to output full dolby digital HD??
It all depends where you want the decoding done I guess. It's all subjective obviously but I bought the EP35 as I figured my 905 decoder would probably do a better job than the decoder on the DVD player. Plus I get to see TrueHD on the display.
Couldn't care less if it sounds better, I can see it on the display = me happy.
