Time machine - Two macs - One Hard Drive?

I've got an iMac and a Macbook. Can i use a single HD to back both of them up using time machine? is it as simple as just plugging them in and running time machine?

I would imagine if you partition the drive into two parts then you can use one partition for one mac and one for the other.

I have a hard drive with three partitions and just selected the one I wanted to use for time machine no problems

I'm sure I read somewhere that since Time Machine stores backups for a particular machine under a single folder, you don't even need to partition your backup drive for multiple machines.

Re: Time machine - Two macs - One Hard Drive?

why would u need to partition it? time machine is specific per mac... don't believe you could use the time machine info from one mac machine to another...

plus time machine will remember what files it will have per machine, its not that dumb :S
