Why does it insist my speakers are large???

Hi

I have a SOny 5200es amp driving Focal labs Sib and Cub Sat/Sub speakers and Sub woofer. When I auto calibrate my amp it insists my speakers are large when clearly they are not! My understanding with speakers of this type is that all bass is routed for the sub and that they speakers have to be set to small at the amp level for this to happen. Am I incorrect? Should I leave them at large setting instead of manually changing them. The reason I am fiddling with it is that I am not happy with the bass I am getting at the moment and think that perhaps a new SW may be need for some more grunt.

Any help gratefully received.

Ta

Nick

Mine does the same. Originally I couldn't change it - because I didn't have a sub so it wouldn't let me. Now I plugged the sub in today and it still decided my fronts are large. I changed them to small manually.

Maybe large is the default.

Yep i would do it manually as the speakers are most definitely small.
Changing to a quality subwoofer can sometimes seem like you have a whole new system so it is worth looking at.

Auto setup routines will set a speaker to large if it detects the -3dB point is lower than 80Hz. Once in a real room, that encompasses quite a lot of surprisingly small speakers. Simply reset it manually.

Re: Why does it insist my speakers are large???

Thanks Guys.

I purchased this sub/sat combo when I had a smaller space to fill. I have a room about 21x10ft now and I feal that the sound is weakend since the move to the larger room. Problem is that my wife is just not going to put up with bigger speakers and to be frank my 2 year old will detroy anything not out of her reach. I wonder if a bigger sub will give me the oomph I feel I am missing.

Cheers

Nick
