New Sub Perhaps M&K KX10

I want to buy a Sub mainly for home cinema use but may in future use with my Hi-Fi. My local Audi-T dealer has recomended the M&K KX10 which he is currently selling at around £450. My initial thoughts were to get a REL sub (guess around the same kind of money) Can I ask what peoples thoughts are on the KX10 vs REL. Are their any other good sub's around this price level you would also recomend??

Thanks

Re: New Sub Perhaps M&K KX10

Hi Bailey
Welcome to the forums .
At the moment there are quite a few subs that would be a better choice than the m&k. Does it matter how big the sub is what size is your room and is £450 your max budget.
Andy.

Re: New Sub Perhaps M&K KX10

BK Monolith, SVS PB12, SVS PB10 all around £400.

All will be better, I would imagine, given the 8" driver and a quick look at the spec which says "useful output down to 30hz".

Plenty of info to be found in this forum

The only downside is you can't get to demo them.

Re: New Sub Perhaps M&K KX10

Thanks for the welcome! My current room size is 5.6m x 3.35m will your recomendations remain unchanged. £400 is not necessary my budget can go higher if needed. The only potential problem is my wife would like to keep the sub down to a reasonable size if possible

Re: New Sub Perhaps M&K KX10

Oh sorry. welcome mate

Here's a nice selection of subs;

http://www.av-sales.co.uk/Speakers-a...oofers-183-22/

Basically you get what you pay for, but IMHO the SVS offer extremely good VFM.

I'd discount the first 3 for your room though.

Question Re: New Sub Perhaps M&K KX10

Thanks I had not concidered the SVS at all!! If I decide to use with my naim system as a music sub in future as well as home cinema (naim credo speakers and naim power amp) will the PB12 be OK.

Re: New Sub Perhaps M&K KX10

I see absolutely no reason why not, although any sub will ultimately only be as good as it's setup.
Correct positioning, correct gain, etc, are highly important for getting best results
I've heard the SB12+ and it is superb for it's size.
It can be bettered by it's bigger brothers, but if size is important, it's the one to go for, unless you want to spend substantially more money (I'm talking hundreds).
It also has a one band EQ jobby too, which can be highly useful

Duh, that'll teach me to read properly

Yes the PB12 will be fine
That's the one I was after before I heard the SVS Ultra13

I would have thought you are right in the first instance if size is an issue as the pb12 is quite a size .
Andy.

Re: New Sub Perhaps M&K KX10

Agreed
But the last post didn't mention size.

Simple answer is that the SB12+ is extremely good for the size, but will be bettered by the PB12 NSD. Both are excellent for the dough

There you go, a "one size fits all" answer

Oh, and both will work well with any speaker/amp combination

I am currently using the Rega Sub with Royd Front/Rears with Naim AV2/DVD5
Excellent results on music and films, and I highly recommend it. I believe the Rega sub is actually manufactured by REL. I will probably be selling the Rega if I like my home demo of the Naim N-System (hopefully this week)

This is not a spoiler, honest

It will simply not compete with the SVS' at any given price point, sorry.
Even second hand.

Why does everyone think REL is so good?

Don't get me wrong, they're not bad, but VFM-wise

All IMO, of course

Ian, I feel a deletion coming on
Feel free , but I'm sick of hearing it
