HELP - problems with my HD DVD - Emergency

Hi

Can anybody help me get to the bottom of this.

I have a Panasonic TX26LXD52 LCD and a Toshiba HD 30 DVD player conected via HDMI - this all worked fine.

However this morning when I tried to play a HD DVD - Toshiba HD DVD logo appears and the disc loading icon appears but when the DVD starts to play the TV flashes green pixalation then the dvd clock counter goes back to 0:00and the screen goes black, and it tries to play the disc again but the same happens just a black screen ?

However if I stop the DVD and go to the HD DVD setup menu I can view this on the TV

Any ideas on what is causing this ?

P.S. - This happened this morning after a SKY engineer was trying to install SKY HD but failed because the SKY box was saying that 'Your TV is not compatible with HDCP' even though the TV should ! Could he have used a faulty HDMI cable which has affected by LCD ?

So I dont know if he changed any settings on my LCD or is my HD DVD faulty?

Please help!!!

you just answered it yourself because the only reason to get a green screen doing that is normally when you have a hdcp issue......

Re: HELP - problems with my HD DVD - Emergency

Is the HDMI lead currently plugged into the Sky HD box, if it is try unplugging & see if the DVD works then. The sky box may be causing an HDMI conflict.

Also try unplugging both the TV & DVd from the mains for a few minutes & unplugging the HDMI lead to the DVD, plug it back in & then plug the tv & dvd back into the mains, this can sometimes resolve HDMI issues.

Re: HELP - problems with my HD DVD - Emergency

I had a similar issue with my Pioneer 435xde .. In which I had sky HD installed on the sunday .. and by monday night, my PS3 & HD DVD would no-longer work via HDMI .. although, both worked fine using component cables.

It turned out that the skyHD box had corrupted something in my HDMI circuit and now only skyHD would work using HDMI

There were quite a few similar issues around the same time mine went wrong .. have a read of this thread here including the links in post 6.

PS3 HDMI Problem with Pioneer PDP-435FDE

The fault was eventually fixed by Pioneer, with a HDMI board replacement .. totally free of charge

Re: HELP - problems with my HD DVD - Emergency

Thanks all for your help

I have contacted Panasonic and they said that with the HDMI (TYPE A) socket on this tv should not have a problem with HDCP.

So I wonder if it is to do with SKY HD messing up the HDMI circuit board in the TV as mentioned in Pioneer TV's?

I have turned the TV, HD DVD , SKY+ box off (SKY HD box is back with the enigineer) and when turning on the HD - DVD through HDMI I am getting nothing at all now - just a black screen with HDMI text on it from the LCD?

"Should not have a problem " and "do not have a problem" are not necessarily the same thing - worth at least bearing in mind if you don't get a quick fix.

Season's Greetings.

Re: HELP - problems with my HD DVD - Emergency

I have just tried the HD DVD up at my brothers house and all works fine!!!

Looks as if SKY HD or the engineer has damaged the HDMI circuit board on my LCD !!

How would you approach this with sky ? I'm going to complain to them later

Hi, if this is a skyHD related problem, you will need to take this up with Panasonic, as sky will not be able to assist in the repair .. this will require a qualified Panasonic engineer.

I would get in touch with Panasonic again and explain that you have tried the player on another HDMI screen and it worked fine, and it also worked fine with your screen until the sky box was connected.

It would probably be a good idea to give sky's technical department a ring as well, and explain the problem to see if they have had any reported issues with Panasonic screens.

Best of luck

Paul
