Wireless connection with sky router

Not sure if this is the correct area to post, but here goes....

I have switched to SKY Broaband from BT, and have been sent a new D-Link standard router. I am using a D-Link adaptor on my stand alone machine upstairs, which I have used with a router for BT and the ISP before that.

However, since switching to the Sky Netgear routher, I have been experiencing connection problems. I have a wirless laptop & wireless Xbox 360. Both work fine, but the stand alone machine keeps having connection drop outs.

There's a few things annoying me, I am fairly sure the router is ok, because it works with my laptop & xbox fine, but just not this D-Link Adaptor.... But then if the adaptor is at fault, how as it worked with previous routers ?

Has anyone had any experience of this? Or can offer any advise?

Many Thanks

Re: Wireless connection with sky router

I had a similar problem when I switched from a BT Home Hub to a SKY Netgear router - one of my wireless PCs kept losing the connection every few minutes. I eventually solved it by changing the wireless security on the Netgear router from WPA back to WEP (which is what the BT Home Hub used). I know that WEP isn't as secure as WPA but my wireless network has worked flawlessly ever since. I'm not sure why this should have made a difference (as my PC wireless card claimed WPA compatibility) but, in any case, it worked for me.

So, it may be worth changing to WEP security and trying that with your upstairs PC. If it works you will then have to enter the new WEP key into each of the other laptops.
