Are Sunfire subs any good?

That might seem like an odd question, given their price, but I am after a new subwoofer and the Sunfire is on the shortlist. However, I was in the US a few years ago and went into a hifi shop that had the 2700 Watt Sunfire on demo. Basically, it was rubbish. It "clipped" at very low levels and seemed like it was massively overpowered.

I now see that Sunfires are on sale at various UK outlets, and at prices that challenge the BK Monolith and Rel Quake, so am interested in people's experiences.

Whilst not familiar with the unit in question, it is apparent that it was either defective or the source was overdriven.

Re: Are Sunfire subs any good?

I agree with the poster above. I have this sunfire sub http://www.sunfire.com/TrueSubwooferEQPR.htm

And think it is brilliant. I have owned Velodyne, Rel, MJ acoustic, Kef, etc sub's so I have some idea of what a good sub sounds like.

I now have a MJ Acoustics in the cinema room (cause of easy PC connection too!) and Sunfire in living room

I got mine for I think £600 or so whatever it was it was an absolute bargain (from eBay).

For everything I was looking for it was the best all round.

1) Bass quality
2) Price
3) Size (needed to be reasonably small)
4) Aesthetics
5) Build quality
6) Connection flexibility

Now for all the above this came out top! For Bass Quality the Velodyne I owned just pipped it (just). For size though can't really beat the Rel Quake! Build quality and connection flexibility on the MJ Acoustics is also good. Aesthetics's, Kef were nice, etc, etc but all round this is the best subwoofer for me.
