Hello there

I am having Sky installed today and was wondering how I can connect it to my dvd recorder to record programmes?

Cheers

Re: How do I connect SKY box to dvd recorder

Hopefully, your DVD Recorder can handle RGB on both its scarts, input and output.

If that's the case, then connect from the TV scart on your Sky box to the input scart on the recorder, and ensure that RGB is enabled in the Sky box set-up. Then connect from the output scart on the recorder to the TV, and ensure that you use an RGB enabled scart input on the TV.

This will ensure the best signal all the way through your set-up, as the recorder will loop RGB through when it's in standby.

It may well be that you'll also need to enable RGB for your recorder's input - I know I did on mine.

Hope that helps.

Season's Greetings.

Cheers,

Martin.

Re: How do I connect SKY box to dvd recorder

Cheers for that. I think when I used to have Sky I managed to wire it up so that if I was recording sky I could watch freeview as my dvd recorder has it built in. Its a Panasonic dvd recorder. I think I had 2 scarts going to and from the dvd rec and the Sky box, then i had it connected to the tv by a component cable. Does that sound correct?

Re: How do I connect SKY box to dvd recorder

I don't know why you would have had two scarts going between the DVD Recorder and the Sky Box. You could certainly have had one scart between them and then a component connection from the recorder to the TV.

Season's Greetings,

Martin.

I have a panasonic and I have the TV Scart of the Sky+ going to AV2 on the DVD Recorder (Both must be set to RGB).

Sky Plus will allow you to watch one channel while recording another or to record 2 channels and watch something from the Sky Hard disk.

You can also leave two programmes recording on the sky box and change the DVD input to Freeview instead of AV2 and watch/record something from the DVD freeview. You could even be recording a programme on the DVD timer as well as recording the two programmes on the Sky box and watch something on the DVD hard disk.

Now you need to clone yourself so that you can watch two things at once!

Seriously if you wired the Sky TV output via an AV Sender you could watch that on another TV or rather your partner could.

It did not seem to work

I have a sky box with tv scart, vcr scart.
Dvd recorder = AV1, AV2

So how can i set it up to record sky and watch freeview or record freeview and watch sky?

Re: How do I connect SKY box to dvd recorder

You do not say what brand of DVD recorder it is.

On the Panasonic EX-75 you connect

DVD AV1 to the TV
DVD AV2 to the Sky TV Out Scart

Other DVD ports can go to DV or a VCR as required

So the DVD is first in the chain from the TV (before Sky would have been first)

You set the DVD Input on the remote to AV2 and it shows whatever is on Sky.

To watch freeview just press the input button and change it to the Freeview Tuner and then press the channel up/down to watch whatever channel you want.

The Sky box is still sending the signal to AV2

You can use the timer on the DVD to record either a programme from the Freeview Tuner and watch Sky on AV2 or vice versa.

Re: How do I connect SKY box to dvd recorder

Hi there !

I read your posts with interest. I'm having a shocker.

I am trying to connect my Sky+ to my Panasonic DMR-EX95V DVD recorder in order to record direct from Sky+ onto the HDD of the DVD player. I thought this would be pretty straightforward !

I have a sky+ box with tv scart & vcr scart.
Dvd recorder has AV1 (tv), AV2 (ext).

I am failing miserably. despite following the layout you suggest in your posts, DVD AV1 (tv) to the TV, DVD AV2 to the Sky TV Out Scart. I must be doing something wrong. When I choose AV2 on the input screen it is just black with no picture. The only way I can get a Sky picture is by turning off the DVD player and choosing AV1.

Can anyone help with the connection layout. My tv is a Panasonic TH37PX70.

Many thanks.

Re: How do I connect SKY box to dvd recorder

From what you said, you haven't got anything plugged into AV2 of the TV. Both DVD and SKY+ will be received via AV1. If the DVD is off, SKY will feed through to the TV. If DVD is turned on, you will be looking at the output of the DVD. If you want SKY to record and/or watch while DVD is on, you need to select A2 as the input channel of the DVD (not the TV).

Assuming the EX95 has a similar menu system to my EX77 then Goto..

Functions-To Others-Setup-Connection

Make sure the AV1 setting is RGB1 and the AV2 setting is RGB/Video.

Re: How do I connect SKY box to dvd recorder

Guys

Thank you both for your responses. Much appreciated for your help.

Unfortunately, still no joy ! Aarrrghhhh....

This is how I am now set up.

On Sky+ box VCR Scart plug - Scart cable - to DVD recorder AV1 Scart plug
On Sky+ box TV Scart plug - Scart cable - to television AV1 scart plug
On DVD recorder AV2 Scart plug - Scart cable - to television AV2 scart plug

I have no other cables being used other than power leads, the two input cables into the Sky+ box and a telephone line into the Sky+ box.

I have checked the settings on the DVD recorder and using the Functions-To Others-Setup-Connection the AV1 setting is RGB1 and the AV2 setting is RGB/Video.

The problem still remains that the only place I get a picture is on selecting AV1 with the tv remote. BUT, when I switch on the DVD recorder, I lose the picture and can't get a picture on any input channel until I turn the DVD recorder off again.

I'm really worried I'm missing something obvious, but I can't figure it out.

Help !!

PS, on holiday from tonight for a week so won't be able to try anything else for a while, but still please drop me a note with any ideas you might have.

Many thanks.

Re: How do I connect SKY box to dvd recorder

The answer is in my thread above

On the SKY box connect the Scart labeled TV (not the VCR) to AV2 (Not AV1) on the DVD.

On the DVD box connect the Scart AV1 (not the AV2) to a scart on the TV.

If you have any other kit such as a VCR plug it into AV3 of the DVD

The pictures you get are irrelevant because you had the cables plugged in wrongly.

Re: How do I connect SKY box to dvd recorder

Leeroytheboy, follow what Zappo is telling you - he is 100% correct - the AV1 scart on the DVD recorder will be an output (to the TV), so you need to connect from the Sky box to the AV2 scart which is an input. Then connect the AV1 scart on the DVD recorder to the input scart on the TV. Also, use the TV scart on the Sky box, and ensure that you have RGB enabled on the Sky box.

Cheers,

Martin.
