Hmmm

Digital switchover is 'a mystery'

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7473807.stm

Many people are still buying analogue TV sets unaware that they will soon need extra equipment to make them work, according to a report from MPs.

A parliamentary report claims that many viewers do not understand the implications of the digital switchover, despite a £200m campaign.

It says the digital tick labelling scheme for digital TVs is a "mystery" to many sales staff and customers.

Almost half of all TV sets sold in the first half of 2007 were analogue.

i don't see a problem, if you use sky or cable you don't need a new tv, i haven't used an analog signal in over 4 years.

I suspect that many MPs themselves "do not understand the implications of the digital switchover", and don't realise that the "extra equipment" is simply an STB costing around £20, which is probably less than the difference between the cost of an analogue only TV and one with a digital tuner. Also, that the analogue switch-off is still 4 years away for some regions.

Also, that "extra equipment" will in any case be needed by anyone wanting to record programmes, watch Freesat etc etc.
