Thomson DT16300-16 - recording problems
My Tommo has stopped all attempts at recording programmes using various methods. I don't subscribe to TUTV - is this the reason? A reset on the "Engineers" menu doesn't seem to do anything either. Any suggestions?

Re: Thomson DT16300-16 - recording problems
just a long shot,
it wouldn't be that you have a Top Up Tv card inserted in the slot, would it?
I'm not a subscriber either, but I had the card inserted after buying the box, and after a few days it stopped recording. I pulled the card out, and it started working fine again.

Re: Thomson DT16300-16 - recording problems
Isn't there a reset option somewhere within the Installation menu?

Re: Thomson DT16300-16 - recording problems
Sorry to hijack but my Thomson is really grinding my gears at the minute.
Sometimes (about 40% of the time) it pretends to record things but when I go into programme library to play them back it has the play time as 15 mins. It then plays about 5 minutes of the programme that was on before the one I wanted recording then crashes the machine. Occasionally these recordings are so damaged that when I select them to delete them they instantly crash again.
The other day I accidentally found a way of reformatting the hard drive but I can't remember how I did it now. I've tried the engineers menu loads of times and the option doesn't seem to be there.
So A) Why is the PVR doing this idiocy with the recordings? I suspect it's just because it's a piece of crap.
B) How DO you reformat the HD? I don't want to do a full reset of the machine as I'll have to set it all up again.
Cheers.

Re: Thomson DT16300-16 - recording problems
I figured out how to format the HD now, which is nice. (Help menu, Green then Blue)
The thing is still annoying me though with it's idiotic recording -ups. Any ideas? Anyone experienced this particular kind of stupidity?

Re: Thomson DT16300-16 - recording problems
None of you dozen-or-so Thomson owners have ever had this problem? Golly. Should I feel blessed or cursed?
Maybe I'll just sacrifice it.

Re: Thomson DT16300-16 - recording problems
Hi there. My Thomson DTR 16300 is the same. Firstly, de-activate the TopUp TV channels (In the set-up menu), as for some reason it records random rubbish from the Audi Showcase channel. You will find that you have 70 hours total personal recording space. Plenty for most people really, but it is a bit deceiving when it says "up to 120 hours recording capacity" on the box. I think it probably means up to 120 hours only if you record off the digital radio channels which may not take up a lot of room. Hmmm. Still a good piece of kit, though, for £99.

Re: Thomson DT16300-16 - recording problems
I have had my Thomson box for 6 weeks or so now, and have experienced 1 failed recording, and around 3 lockups where you can do nothing but pull the power lead out.
Compared to not being able to record nothing at all, I am okish with the teething problems, but explaining things to my wife or daughter is problematic to say the least and does nothing to help sweeten the effects of introducing more kit into the house.
I personally stopped using the top up tv thing more or less straight away - I rang for the trail, then after I was told it would take 3 days then an extra 5 days to add the programs I just got bored and removed the card, especially as it appeared that I was getting more freezing programs with it in.
Oh, and I agree with the above poster - deactivate all the top up tv channels, and your recording time will hit high 70's. The time is slightly misleading however, as some programs take more (or less) time allocation - I think its all down to the bandwidth of the program you are recording. I have loads of films and programs lined up and still have 50+ hours left, so its unlikely you will run out....
